Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 128

Julian's grip on Hester's hand loosened slightly. "Have you contacted Neil?"

"Yes, I called him. Neil is almost here..."

"I'm heading back right now." Julian ended the call abruptly.

He looked down at Hester, who was still frozen in shock against his chest. "We are flying back to Northwood City immediately."

Hester's eyelashes fluttered. She gave a numb, almost imperceptible nod.

...

Two hours later, their private jet touched down in Northwood City.

A black SUV, dispatched by Neil, was already idling outside the terminal.

Julian and Hester walked out of the airport, slid into the backseat, and sped straight toward the hospital.

Forty tense minutes later, they arrived.

Neil was waiting at the main entrance. The moment he saw Julian and Hester step out of the vehicle, he jogged over.

"Mr. Weston. Mrs. Weston."

Julian looked sharply at his assistant. "What did the doctors say?"

"He cracked the back of his head on the stairs and lost a significant amount of blood. He has a mild skull fracture. They ran some scans, and thankfully, there's no sign of intracranial bleeding yet." Neil hesitated for a split second before adding, "Caden has been moved to a private room. He's stable for the moment, but he hasn't regained consciousness."

Hearing the prognosis, the suffocating tension in Julian's face eased slightly.

"Let's go. Take me to Caden."

Neil nodded and led the way through the sterile corridors.

Hester followed closely behind. Suddenly, she looked at Neil and asked, "How does a perfectly fine child just tumble down a flight of stairs?"

Neil didn't stop walking, but a highly uncomfortable expression crossed his face.

He threw a nervous, sidelong glance at Julian, clearly hesitating to speak.

Lena stood in the corner, wiping away tears, a mess of suffocating guilt and residual terror.

Julian picked up the medical chart clipped to the bed, scanned it quickly, and slammed it back down. He spun around, his eyes locking onto Lena like laser sights. "What exactly happened?"

"I am so sorry, Mr. Weston! I failed to protect him!" Lena's tears flowed even harder. "I—I saw how loving Ms. Monroe was toward Caden, and he completely adored her! So I didn't think I needed to keep my guard up around her. I never in a million years imagined Ms. Monroe would hurt him!"

Melody?

Hester's brow snapped together. She immediately turned to Julian. "Melody was at Stellamare Villa?"

Julian flinched.

He turned his sharp gaze back to Lena. "What the hell was Melody doing at the house?"

"She showed up yesterday. She said she knew you were out of the country, and she was too worried about Caden, so she rushed over right after being discharged from the hospital." Lena quickly defended herself, "I tried calling you, and I sent you a text! But you never answered your phone, and you never replied... And Caden trusted her so much! Last night, Ms. Monroe even tucked him into bed."

Hearing this, Hester couldn't hold back a bitter scoff. "So she just moved right in. Look at that, Julian. Your marital home is never short of stray women and children. Why are you clinging to me so desperately?"

The deep crease between Julian's eyebrows grew harsher. Ignoring Hester's razor-sharp barb, he stared down Lena with icy composure. "Where is Melody right now?"
