Caden swallowed his porridge and looked up at her earnestly. "Mommy, Lena said you have a baby in your tummy and need lots of rest. I promise I'll be super good so you don't have to worry about me!"
Hester froze, shooting a sharp look at Lena.
Lena quickly explained, "While you were napping, Caden woke up crying for you. Mr. Weston didn't want him disturbing your rest, so he explained about the pregnancy. Caden is such a sweet boy—the moment he heard, he stopped crying completely."
Hester frowned slightly, turning her gaze back to Caden.
The boy's big, dark eyes were practically sparkling. "Mommy, Daddy said you're going to give me a little sister! I really want a sister. I hope she's just as cute as Gigi!"
Caden's face was glowing with pure, innocent excitement at the prospect of a new life.
Hester pressed her lips together, unsure of what to say.
"Don't worry, Mommy! I'm the big brother, so I'll protect her. I'm going to be the best big brother ever!"
Hearing Caden's sweet vows, Hester's heart softened.
The boy was so pure and genuinely thrilled to welcome this new life. Biologically, her baby and Caden would be cousins.
Even after she divorced Julian, that blood tie wouldn't change.
If the two children could grow up caring for each other, it wouldn't be a bad thing.
"You are amazing, Caden," Hester said, gently ruffling his hair. "You're so sweet. I know you'll be a wonderful big brother."
Beaming under her praise, Caden's smile grew even wider.
Watching Hester soften toward the boy, Lena secretly let out a sigh of relief.
It seemed that, for the sake of the baby, Mrs. Weston was finally forgiving her husband.
"Mrs. Weston, I made some chicken soup. Let me get you a bowl to warm your stomach," Lena offered. "If there's anything specific you're craving, just let me know. I'll make it as soon as Caden is done eating."
"Thank you, but I'm not that hungry. The soup is fine."
"That won't do!" Lena frowned disapprovingly. "You're eating for two now. You need proper nutrition."
