Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 147

Sabrina's eyes darted around for a moment before she looked back at Hester and gave an honest nod.

Hester's lips curved into a faint, knowing smirk. "I guessed as much."

"But Julian only showed up much later," Sabrina explained. "By then, everyone was already pretty wasted and getting rowdy. Someone brought up how Declan used to chase Seraphina back in the day. Seraphina immediately tried to clarify that she and Declan were just platonic friends, and that Declan was only taking such good care of her out of respect for Julian, since she's his sister-in-law. But everyone was drunk and wouldn't stop teasing them. Eventually, Seraphina started looking incredibly wronged, like she was the victim of some massive injustice. And right on cue, Julian walked in."

Hester listened in silence, not offering a response.

Recalling the scene from last night, Sabrina couldn't help but sigh. "Five years really changed Seraphina a lot! She used to be the famous Ice Goddess of the College of Fine Arts. Stunning, brilliant, completely scandal-free—she was the kind of person the entire university praised without hesitation!"

Sabrina scratched her head in frustration. "But seeing her again last night... her facial features are exactly the same, yet her entire aura is completely different. I can't quite put my finger on it, but... the vibe is just totally off now, you know?"

Hester didn't offer any judgments on the matter.

She didn't know Seraphina well enough to critique her.

The only reason she had asked Sabrina for these details was to determine if Seraphina's return would disrupt her own life.

Based on the current situation, it really was hard to say.

When a woman loses the protection of her husband, she inevitably shifts her emotional dependency elsewhere.

Whether she anchored herself to young Caden, or to Julian—who now held the reigns of the entire Weston family—Hester genuinely didn't care.

Her only concern was when her divorce from Julian would finally be finalized, and whether she could safely bring her baby into the world in a peaceful environment.

No one anticipated Seraphina's sudden return.

"Sabrina, men have a weird obsession with the ones who got away. It doesn't even mean he's deeply in love with her; it's exactly like the saying goes—the unattainable is always tempting."

Hester took her friend's hand, speaking gently. "I know you've been waiting for Declan, but if Seraphina is staying in the country for good, I think you need to protect your own heart until Declan finally figures out what he wants."

"I know. I'm not some hopeless romantic who loses all sense of reason."

Sabrina pouted. "Yes, I like Declan, but I haven't reached the point of throwing away my dignity for him. What makes me so furious is that Seraphina clearly has zero interest in him, yet he's over there fully indulging his own hero fantasies! He's just humiliating the Reed family!"

"That's his own choice. Take my advice: don't get involved between him and Seraphina. Like you said, Declan is wearing thick rose-tinted glasses for her right now. He's more than willing to do anything for her. At this stage, he won't listen to any advice, and if you try to intervene, you'll just end up being the villain."
