Hester slowly drifted back to consciousness in the emergency room.
The moment she opened her eyes, she heard Sabrina call out, "Doctor, my friend is awake!"
The attending physician hurried over.
After checking her blood pressure and heart rate, the doctor confirmed she was out of danger.
"She's fine now. Fasting for her bloodwork caused her blood sugar to crash. Now that she's awake, have her drink some glucose and eat something. Once she's rested for a bit, she can go home."
Sabrina rushed forward, helping Hester sit up. She twisted the cap off a bottle of glucose water and brought it to her lips. "Drink up, quick. You scared the life out of me!"
Hester wasn't exactly a stranger to this kind of situation. She calmly took the bottle and took a few long swallows.
Sabrina then tore open the wrapper of a sandwich and handed it over. "Eat."
Hester took it, lowering her head to take a bite.
Sabrina sat on the edge of the bed, her brow furrowing as she took in Hester's pale complexion. She let out a heavy sigh. "Hester, you really can't keep living on your own like this. You already suffer from low blood sugar, and now that you're pregnant, you have to take it seriously."
Hester swallowed her bite of the sandwich before looking at Sabrina. "I know."
Seeing her calm demeanor, Sabrina asked, "Do you have a plan?"
Hester didn't answer. Her eyes had shifted to the doorway, where Julian Weston had just walked in.
Following Hester's gaze, Sabrina turned her head and spotted Julian. A chill ran down her spine.
Julian walked over to the bed, casting a cold, condescending glance at Sabrina.
Sabrina instantly shot up from her seat. "Right, I just remembered I have a phone call to make! Hester, I'm going to step out for a sec!"
With that, Sabrina bolted out of the room.
Julian was carrying a takeout bag from Northwood City's most exclusive and difficult-to-book morning tea restaurant.
Before Hester could react, he snatched the sandwich right out of her hand and tossed it straight into the nearby trash can.
