Listening to Julian's explanation, Hester's expression remained entirely impassive.
At this point, she didn't care in the slightest where he had been rushing from.
She simply looked at the man she had once loved with reckless abandon and asked mildly, "Is Seraphina's depression fully cured?"
Julian hesitated, clearly caught off guard by the question.
After a beat of silence, he answered honestly, "There is no 'fully cured' when it comes to clinical depression. But her mood has been highly stable for the last two years, and she successfully transitioned off her medication over a year ago."
Hester gave a slow nod. "So, when she came back this time, it was because she believed she was fully prepared and mentally sound enough to take over caring for Caden."
"Yes. She's been worrying about him all these years. The people I hired to watch her would send her photos and videos of him regularly. He's the only reason she held on. Caden is literally the only thing keeping her alive."
Hester couldn't argue with that.
She would never question a mother's profound love for her child.
But that didn't mean she endorsed Seraphina's chaotic approach since returning to the country.
