Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 167

Hester stopped on the bottom step, her face an unreadable mask of calm as she listened to Celeste.

Celeste was now fiercely defending Seraphina with every breath.

And how many days had it actually been?

Clearly, Seraphina was an absolute master at buying loyalty.

"Seraphina is sitting alone in the kitchen crying her eyes out right now. I just couldn't stand by and watch anymore, which is why I'm telling you this. If you think I'm out of line, you can fire me, but everything I've said today is out of pure conscience."

In the living room, Julian stood facing the floor-to-ceiling windows, his back to Celeste.

The rain was still pouring outside.

His dark eyes stared out into the dreary autumn rain, his expression unreadable.

Behind him, Celeste stared at his tall, imposing figure and continued to ramble. "Sir, Seraphina is out in the garden right now. She already struggles with depression, and if this keeps up, I'm genuinely terrified she's going to have a relapse. Please talk to Mrs. Weston. She's going to be a mother soon herself—shouldn't she have at least a little empathy for Seraphina?"

"I had no idea that simply eating what I prefer in my own home made me such an unforgivable monster."

Hester's voice cut through the room like a blade. Celeste froze instantly.

She whipped around to see Hester strolling calmly toward the living area.

All the color instantly drained from Celeste's face.

"M-Mrs. Weston..." Celeste stammered, dropping her head as a cold sweat broke out across her back.

She had only wanted to suck up to Seraphina. Seeing how accommodating and attentive Julian was to Seraphina, Celeste had calculated that backing the new arrival was a far better career move than staying loyal to Hester.

But that didn't mean she actually had the guts to clash with Hester directly.

Celeste was entirely rendered speechless.

"Enough! Celeste, don't say another word!"

Seraphina suddenly burst into the room, throwing herself protectively in front of Celeste.

She looked at Hester, tears streaming down her face in a perfect display of devastation. "Hester, I know I'm useless. I know my emotions just end up stressing Caden out. I can see how much you love him, and he has the Weston bloodline anyway... he adores you. I feel safe leaving him with you. From now on... you can raise Caden. I will never bother him again. If that's not enough, I can go back abroad and never return. I just beg you, please don't punish innocent people because you hate me. Please?"

"Sure, then leave right now." Hester stared at the weeping, dramatic woman with zero emotion. "I'm officially his godmother anyway. I'll take excellent care of him. You can leave with complete peace of mind."

Julian spun around, a furious, dark glare locking onto Hester.

"Hester, have you had enough of this?!"
