Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 184

Hester listened with a perfectly neutral expression.

She had to admit, compared to her previous visits, Seraphina's behavior and emotional regulation were drastically improved today.

On the surface, her performance was absolutely flawless.

Since Seraphina was playing nice, Hester decided to humor her.

Besides, softening her own stance was the only way to test if this sudden transformation was genuine.

With that in mind, Hester offered a faint smile. "You just said we're family. There's no need for such formalities between us."

Seraphina watched her closely, searching her face for any signs of deception.

While Hester's smile wasn't exactly warm, her icy demeanor had noticeably thawed.

It seemed she had actually bought the act.

Seraphina breathed a quiet sigh of relief, her own smile growing significantly brighter.

"Thank you, Hester. It's no wonder Caden is always singing your praises!" She took a confident step forward. "Since you aren't mad at me anymore, does this mean I can visit more often?"

The corners of Hester's lips twitched upward. "Of course."

A flash of surprise crossed Seraphina's eyes. "Really? You won't find me annoying?"

"You're coming over to spend time with Caden. Why would that annoy me? However, being pregnant means my schedule is pretty unpredictable. I hope you can understand if I'm not always available to entertain you."

Seraphina nodded vigorously. "I completely understand! I've been through a pregnancy too, so I know exactly how it is. Don't worry, I'll do my best to stay out of your hair when I visit."

Hester smiled pleasantly. "Then we shouldn't have any issues. Plus, Caden is always thrilled when you're here."

Having secured exactly what she wanted, Seraphina visibly relaxed.

For some inexplicable reason, a deep, unsettling sense of panic twisted in his gut.

Caden ran over, grabbing Hester's hand with one of his and Seraphina's with the other. His little face was glowing with absolute joy. "Daddy, look! I have two mommies now!"

Julian looked down at his son's beaming face, his tight expression softening into a faint smile. "Are you happy, buddy?"

"So happy! Godmother is amazing, and Mommy is amazing too!" Caden's eyes suddenly lit up with a brilliant idea. "Daddy, Mommy said we're all family! Since we're a family, can Mommy move in and live with us?"

Julian froze.

Before he could respond, Seraphina hurriedly intervened. "Caden, don't say things like that. When I said we were family, I meant we're part of one big extended family. But your dad and godmother have their own little household, and you and I have ours. The people who share a household live together because they're the closest. Extended families don't all live under one roof. It's totally different."

Being so young, Caden struggled to grasp the distinction. He blinked in utter confusion. "Why do families have to be separated like that?"

Seraphina crouched down and playfully pinched his nose. "Because it's how things work. I gave birth to you, which makes us blood relatives, so we belong together. Your dad and godmother are married. They signed a marriage license and are the closest of partners, so they belong together. And when their baby arrives, the baby will live with them."
