Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 205

"Thank you and Livia for keeping me in your thoughts," Seraphina said, pushing herself up to sit. The movement pulled at her wound, causing her to hiss in pain.

Chloe stood nearby, doing absolutely nothing to help.

As a pampered heiress accustomed to being served, she had no idea how to care for others. Moreover, she was only there with an ulterior motive, lacking any genuine concern.

Her complete lack of empathy made her entirely blind to how terrible her acting was.

Seraphina took note of her indifference.

She saw everything crystal clear.

Livia and Chloe were not suitable allies.

However, 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' was a saying that held true.

Seraphina lowered her eyes, hiding the calculation in her gaze.

When she looked up again, she wore a gentle smile. "Chloe, don't just stand there. Please, have a seat. We're all family; make yourself at home."

Chloe met Jane's eyes for a fraction of a second before continuing straight to the elevator without breaking her stride.

Jane's hand paused on the door handle. She turned to watch Chloe's retreating figure.

In the room, Seraphina was leaning against the headboard, reading a book.

"I got the groceries. Please wait a moment, I'll go make lunch right now," Jane said.

Seraphina put her book down and looked at Jane. "Thank you, Jane. I appreciate it."

Relieved, Seraphina smiled. "Alright."

It was predicted to make landfall near Coralton the following night. Authorities were issuing rapid-fire warnings, urging residents to secure their homes.

Ms. Crane had called someone in early to reinforce the inn's doors and windows. Having lived on the coast for years, this was just a normal part of typhoon season.

However, getting a storm this late in the year was rare; global weather patterns had become increasingly erratic lately.

Normally, Hester wouldn't be overly concerned about a typhoon, but being pregnant changed things. She had to be extra cautious.

In the afternoon, she was lounging in a rocking chair on the balcony, debating whether to head to another city for a few days to wait out the storm, when her phone rang.

She picked it up. The caller ID showed an unknown number...
