Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 207

"That's very well said, Ms. Crane. I should learn from your perspective."

"In this life, there are gains and losses. It's best to just take things in stride!" Ms. Crane glanced at Hester with a smile. "You strike me as someone with a lot of stories, Ms. Carrington."

Hester raised an eyebrow. "You can tell that just by looking at me?"

"Haven't you heard?" Ms. Crane laughed. "They say innkeepers have a special eye for spotting people with stories."

Hester raised an eyebrow higher. "That's a first for me."

"Of course it is," Ms. Crane winked playfully. "Because I just made it up!"

Hester paused, then burst out laughing.

The drive to the airport was filled with easy conversation.

They talked about everything under the sun.

The atmosphere was light, and Hester found Ms. Crane wonderfully chatty, possessing a maturity and calm that went far beyond her years.

...

At the airport, Ms. Crane parked in the underground garage and accompanied Hester to check-in.

Hester hadn't wanted to trouble her, but the woman was simply too enthusiastic.

Once checked in, Hester said her goodbyes at the security checkpoint.

Ms. Crane waited until Hester had passed through before turning to leave.

The direct flight from Coralton City to Riverton International Airport took two hours.

Probably due to the impending typhoon, the airport was exceptionally crowded today.

Hester's flight was fully booked, but there were still open seats in first class.

Hester found her seat and sat down.

The seat next to her was empty.

She pulled out her phone and sent a quick text to both Ms. Crane and Chiara.

Once the messages were sent, she flipped her phone into airplane mode.

She asked a flight attendant for a blanket, slipped on an eye mask, and fell asleep.

Hester slept through almost the entire two-hour flight.

Midway through, rough turbulence jolted her awake. In her groggy state, she felt as if someone was pulling her blanket up higher around her shoulders.

But she wasn't sure—maybe it was just a dream.

Once the turbulence passed, exhaustion pulled her under again. She let out a yawn, shifted to face the window, and went back to sleep.

When she woke up next, the plane was already descending.
