Chiara was an acclaimed director with several cinematic masterpieces under her belt, and part of her genius was her deep understanding of human psychology. She was exceptionally good at talking people through their emotional blocks.
She knew Hester was trying to make peace with her past.
Whether she still loved him or not was something even Hester probably couldn't answer clearly. Women were inherently emotional creatures; how could anyone just instantly let go of a man they had loved with every fiber of their being?
However, for Hester right now, maintaining a peaceful, uncomplicated environment and a relaxed state of mind was the absolute priority.
After a moment of careful consideration, Chiara spoke gently. "From now on, just look at him strictly as the baby's father."
Hester froze slightly.
"Let's put everything else aside. Just looking at his net worth and social standing, he's a phenomenal provider for any child. You know what they say online—sometimes a woman doesn't get married to find a husband for herself, but to secure a father for her kids."
Hester was utterly speechless.
"I know it sounds crass, but if you strip the romance out of a marriage, aren't you just left with the material foundation?" Chiara paused before adding, "Of course, I'm not saying you have to force yourself to stay with him forever just for the baby's sake. I'm just suggesting a shift in perspective. It's your life. You have to decide what makes you feel the most at peace."
"I understand."
"Good." Chiara's tone was incredibly warm. "I'm only giving you this advice because it's painfully obvious he's not going to finalize this divorce easily. Rather than constantly fighting and tearing each other apart over a piece of paper, change your mindset. Don't talk about love. Just be co-parents."
No romance. Just co-parents.
Hester stared out at the glittering night sky, her eyes clouded with complex emotions.
...
Hester and Poppy had dinner in the suite. They had hit several tourist spots today, burning through a lot of energy. By the time they finished eating, it wasn't even nine o'clock, but both were exhausted.
They retreated to their respective rooms to shower and settle into bed early.
Hester had walked entirely too much today, and her feet and ankles were noticeably swollen.
Before lying down, she tried to massage her calves, but it barely brought any relief.
