Hester's heart gave a wild thump. She tried to jerk her foot back, but Julian had clearly anticipated the move. His grip tightened securely around her ankle.
His hands were undeniably beautiful, long and elegant, yet they carried rough calluses on the palms that told a different story.
Those calluses brushed against the sensitive skin of her ankle.
Hester's breath hitched.
"Let go of me!"
He glanced up at her, completely unbothered by the blazing annoyance in her eyes. "The herbal soak only works properly if it's combined with acupressure. Stop moving."
"I don't want a massage. Let go."
He arched a brow. "Do you want to wake up tomorrow with feet so swollen you can't even put your shoes on?"
Hester pressed her lips into a thin line, temporarily out of arguments.
Seeing that she had stopped fighting him, Julian lowered his head and let his fingers work their magic.
There was no denying it—his massage technique was phenomenal. He found every pressure point with absolute precision, and the amount of force he applied was perfect.
The rich, earthy scent of natural medicine filled the air.
Under the steady, expert rhythm of his hands, a deep warmth began spreading from the soles of her feet. The tingling sensation melted into relief, and the agonizing ache that had plagued her all night finally began to dissipate.
As her body relaxed, a heavy wave of exhaustion crashed over her.
Hester covered her mouth, letting out a soft yawn, and rubbed her heavy eyelids.
She was so tired.
She yawned a few more times, tears pricking the corners of her eyes.
Julian glanced up, his dark eyes intense. "Sleepy?"
Hester yawned again. She was so exhausted she could barely keep her eyes open, let alone muster the energy to glare at him.
Seeing her state, Julian stayed quiet.
He grabbed a dry towel, lifted both of her feet from the water, wrapped them snugly in the cotton, and rested them on his thighs.
Hester just let her feet sit there on his lap as he meticulously dried them off.
When he was done, he looked at her. "You can sleep now."
Hester instantly pulled her legs back, rolled over, and pulled the covers up to her chin.
