“We just woke up too,” Jasper’s voice was warm and smooth over the phone. “Let’s head out together.”
“Sounds good.”
And so, Hester, Jasper, and little Gigi—two adults and one child—made their way to a historic breakfast spot at the entrance of Chronicle Street.
The predicted typhoon had missed them entirely, leaving Coralton City’s bustling tourism scene unaffected. Given the hour, the popular eatery was already humming with early risers.
They grabbed a small square table outside. Since it was Jasper’s first time there, Hester recommended the house specialty: the fish balls. For Gigi, she ordered a bowl of tortellini, which the little girl devoured with absolute delight.
After breakfast, Hester asked if Jasper had any plans for the day.
He had some work to catch up on and had originally planned to bring Gigi along. But with Hester here, Gigi ruthlessly abandoned her father.
“I want to play with my godmother!” Gigi protested, her little brows furrowed in a rare display of stubbornness.
Hester gently ruffled the girl’s hair and looked at Jasper. “Leave her with me. I don’t have anything else on my schedule today. Go handle your work, and I’ll bring her back to the inn later.”
Jasper hesitated. “Are you sure? You’re pregnant—won’t looking after her be too exhausting?”
“She’s an angel. It’s a short walk back, and we can take our time. If we get tired, there’s always the sightseeing tram. You really don’t need to worry.”
Relieved, Jasper nodded. “I’ll wrap things up as quickly as I can. If I finish early, I’ll come find you both.”
“Just go do your thing. Text me when you’re done.”
“Will do.” Jasper crouched down, placing Gigi on her feet, and affectionately patted her head. “Be a good girl for your godmother, okay? She’s carrying a baby, so you need to be gentle and quiet. Promise?”
