Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 25

'Deserve to have dead kids.'

Those words plunged into Hester's chest like a serrated knife. It was as if a tight string had instantly snapped inside her brain!

Hester stared dead at Chloe, her eyes as lifeless and terrifying as an open grave. "Chloe, people have to pay the price for the things they say."

Spooked by the horrifying look on Hester's face, Chloe instinctively took a step back. Hester lunged forward. Before Chloe could even process what was happening, Hester seized a fistful of her hair.

"Ahhh!" Chloe shrieked in agony as her head was violently jerked back at a sickening angle. Tears immediately burst from her eyes from the blinding pain. "Ahhh! It hurts! Mom! Mom, it hurts! This bitch is crazy! Mom, help me..."

"Hester, you little slut! Let go of my daughter!" Livia rushed forward, grabbed a handful of Hester's hair, and yanked it backward with all her might.

Caught entirely off guard, Hester cried out in pain. But before she could recover, Chloe swung her leg up and kicked viciously at Hester's stomach!

Hester's pupils shrank to pinpricks as she desperately twisted away to dodge Chloe's kick, only for Livia to shove her violently from behind! Attacked from both sides, she lost her balance entirely, pitching helplessly forward—

And crashed straight into a broad, solid chest.

A pair of strong arms caught her, steadying her instantly. The familiar, intoxicating scent of pine washed over her. It was Julian.

Hester lifted her head, her breath hitching as she instinctively grabbed her stomach, completely terrified. She couldn't even bear to imagine what would have happened if Julian hadn't caught her. If she had hit the ground... would she have lost the baby?

She had already lost her twins; she absolutely could not let anything happen to this child!

The blinding rage that had hijacked her brain suddenly evaporated, leaving her stone-cold sober. She had lost control of her emotions again.

This was her first total emotional breakdown since she had stopped her medication and committed to getting healthy for the pregnancy. A sudden, suffocating wave of despair began to spread through her chest.

She had promised herself she would be a stable, reliable mother. So why had she snapped like that? Were all her agonizing efforts over the past few months completely useless?

Hester's entire body started to tremble uncontrollably. She was terrified that she was pregnant but still utterly incapable of reining in her turbulent emotions. She was terrified that she was fundamentally broken, unfit to be a mother, and that her instability would end up hurting her baby.

Julian immediately felt the woman shivering violently in his arms. Over the past five years, every time Hester suffered a total meltdown, it always manifested as intense physical symptoms. He knew exactly what she needed right now—absolute silence to decompress.

Julian turned his gaze to Livia and Chloe, his eyes radiating a murderous, bone-chilling fury. "It seems life has been entirely too comfortable for the two of you lately."
