Julian rushed in from the hallway. Taking in the chaotic scene, he quickly stepped forward, his brow furrowed. "Seraphina, calm down."
Caden was wildly kicking and flailing his arms, letting out piercing shrieks. "Ahhh—no, no—"
"Julian, let us go!"
Clutching the thrashing boy, Seraphina sobbed hysterically, acting like a woman pushed to the very brink of despair. "She can't stand us, and I'm terrified! He's just a little boy; I don't want him suffering because of me! I know you love him, but he's Adrian's only child. Let me take him abroad. We'll never interfere in your lives again..."
Hester watched with a deepening frown.
This was unexpected.
Did Seraphina actually believe Julian would let her walk out of here with the boy?
No. Taking him away wasn't her real goal!
Hester's gaze snapped to Caden's face.
He was struggling frantically in Seraphina's hold, his skin horrifyingly pale.
Even worse, his lips were beginning to turn a sickly shade of purple...
Hester's breath hitched as Seraphina's true intention clicked into place!
She yelled, "Let him go! Can't you see he can't breathe?!"
"Hester!" Julian barked at her. "Will you just shut up for a second?!"
She stared at him, letting out a cold, sharp laugh. "You are blind and oblivious. If you actually cared about him, you'd tell her to get the hell away from him!"
Without bothering to look at the facts, Julian roared back, "She is his mother! Seeing him like this is tearing her apart."
Hester stared dead at him.
Finally, she let out a scoff dripping with pure mockery.
Without another word, she spun on her heel and walked out.
Watching her retreating figure, Julian's hands clenched into tight fists at his sides.
The moment she was gone, Seraphina dramatically swayed, collapsing toward him with the boy still in her arms.
"Julian..."
He caught her just in time, lifting Caden away from her chest. "You need to rest."
