Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 43

That afternoon, Neil arrived at the company carrying two share transfer agreements.

"Mrs. Weston, these are the shares held by Mr. Weston and Ms. Monroe. They have all been transferred to your name." Neil offered the documents with both hands, his demeanor deeply respectful.

In the office, Hester sat at her desk and cast a fleeting, indifferent glance at the paperwork before her.

Then, she looked up at Neil, her eyes frosty. "Tell Julian that if he thinks a few shares are enough to make me let Melody off the hook, he's dreaming."

Neil looked agonizingly conflicted. "Mrs. Weston, I'm just following orders."

Hester's lips curved into a cold smile. "Over the past five years, he certainly hasn't hesitated to have you step in and throw your weight around for Melody, has he?"

Neil choked on his words, looking at Hester pleadingly. "...Mrs. Weston, I'm just an employee. Please don't make this harder for me."

"Neil, I'm not trying to make things hard for you. Julian is the one pushing me too far." Hester's voice was ice.

Despite her calm exterior, that uncontrollable, bitter ache flared up in her chest again. Even though she had anticipated this, facing it head-on still hurt. The sheer injustice of his betrayal burned like a raging fire, repeatedly scorching a heart that was already dead and frozen.

She wouldn't back down. She couldn't back down.

"Tell Julian that if he wants me to drop the charges against Melody, he needs to bring the signed divorce papers and negotiate with me in person."

Seeing how unyielding Hester was, Neil had no choice but to step out and call his boss.

...

Half an hour later, Julian arrived.

The office door opened, and Evelyn stepped aside respectfully. "Mr. Weston, please go in."

Dressed in a sharp black suit, Julian strode in, his tall frame radiating a suffocatingly low pressure.

His chiseled face was devoid of emotion. His deep, narrowed eyes swept a chilling glance toward Neil.

Neil took the hint instantly, turned on his heel, and bolted.

The office door clicked shut. The spacious room instantly plunged into an eerie silence.
