Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 6

What made it completely unforgivable was the fact that the boy was five—only four months younger than her twins would have been.

That meant Julian had been sleeping with Melody while Hester was heavily pregnant. Even worse, while the bodies of her children were barely cold in the ground, he and his mistress were popping champagne to celebrate the birth of his secret son!

A violent cramp seized Hester's chest. She squeezed her eyes shut and forced herself to take a deep breath. She couldn't afford to break down. She had to fight for herself and her unborn baby!

"Sabrina, I'm asking you directly: are you going to take my case?"

Hearing this, Sabrina broke into even harder sobs. "I'm so sorry, Hester! It's not that I don't want to help you, I swear! But there's no way in hell I can go up against Mr. Weston in court!"

Hester's heart sank, though she couldn't blame her.

Since Julian had taken over Weston Corp, the company's valuation had quadrupled in just five years. The Weston Corp legal department was a notoriously ruthless, elite team of apex predators in Northwood City. A small private practice lawyer like Sabrina going up against them would be a slaughter. There was zero chance of winning.

"It's fine. I'll figure something else out," Hester said softly, shifting the car into gear.

"Hester, wait! I can pull every string I have and refer you to the best connections in my network. But are you absolutely sure you want to do this? Are you really divorcing him?"

Hester paused, her hand resting on the gearshift. She turned to her friend. "Sabrina, after everything you've just seen, do you think I shouldn't?"

Sabrina was speechless.

"I have to. He doesn't deserve to be the father of my children." Hester turned back to the wheel and stepped on the gas.

The white Panamera pulled a U-turn and sped down the tree-lined street.

Up on the second-floor balcony, Melody lowered her phone. She glanced at the vanishing white sports car in the distance, dipping her chin. In the shadows where no one could see, a triumphant, wicked smirk crawled across her lips.
