He made me watch as Claire posed for wedding photos with my worst enemy. It was his way of rubbing it in, showing me that everything I once cared about now belonged to him. He wanted to crush any hope I had left.
He’d told me before, “Family, lover, parents—they’re all mine. You get nothing.”
He wasn’t wrong. The feeling was unbearable.
Seeing the woman I used to love standing by someone else, about to get married, there’s nothing that stings more than that.
Claire insisted I come along, even though the photoshoot team had everything they needed. Her insistence felt especially harsh. I tried to push back.
“Why am I even here? You have a whole crew. I’m just in the way.”
Garrison pretended to care. “Maybe Lambert should wait in the car. He didn’t look too happy just now.”
Claire shot him a look, then turned to me with cold eyes. “He doesn’t need to enjoy himself. Get over here and carry my bag and water.”
While Garrison went to change, Claire waited outside. The stylist, Laura, kept showering her with compliments.
“Claire, you look incredible in this dress. It’s just perfect.”
“Garrison is so lucky he gets to marry someone as beautiful as you.”
Claire smiled a little. “You think so? Does it really look that good?”
“Absolutely. I hardly ever meet anyone as photogenic or graceful. They say loving someone is like tending flowers. Your relationship with Garrison must be so sweet.”
Laura’s words made Claire stiffen for a moment. Loving someone like tending flowers… Claire was the one I’d nearly poisoned.
“You’re right. No one can guarantee they’ll end up with a good person.”
Claire looked at me, her eyes sharp. “Speaking of which, my driver here probably has a lot of experience with that kind of thing.”
Laura blinked, confused. “What do you mean?”
Claire brushed it off. “Never mind. Let’s get going.”
I knew exactly what she meant. She was calling me an expert at breaking hearts.
Meanwhile, Garrison was listening just behind the door. He finally understood—Claire hadn’t moved on from me. That was why she kept bringing up the past.
If you can’t let him go, Garrison thought, then I’ll make sure he’s destroyed.
