Building Her Throne Burying My Heart (Claire) novel Chapter 85

I went back to my room and flopped onto the bed, letting myself rest for a bit. I tried not to care about whatever was happening outside. I was supposed to be the driver, but around here I ended up being everyone’s errand boy. No matter what needed doing, they called for me. It annoyed me, but there wasn’t much I could do. Claire told me she’d bought me for a year, so I had to do what she said.

I hadn’t even been in bed for two hours before someone knocked again.

Susan stood at the door. “Lambert, Claire wants you by the pool in the back.”

I checked my phone. It was already past two in the afternoon. Lunch was long over.

“Susan, is there any lunch left?”

She smiled. “Yeah, I saved you some. I was going to wake you, but you looked like you needed the sleep. Get up and eat. I’ll be outside, but once you’re done, head to the pool, okay?”

I dragged myself out of bed and wandered into the kitchen, not in any hurry to eat. Getting called to the pool at this time could only mean trouble. I’d just cleaned it last week. With Garrison around, it was always something new to mess with me.

Sure enough, before I could finish eating, Claire walked in.

“Didn’t Susan tell you I needed you?”

I took another slow bite. “She did, but I’m eating first.”

I only had a few bites left, but Claire didn’t have the patience. She grabbed my plate and dumped the rest of my food straight into the trash.

“You’re done. Come with me to the pool.”

When she saw I had nothing, she turned on her heel. “Hurry up and come over. Don’t make me drag you.”

I stood there for a second, then splashed some water on my face, trying to snap out of it. When I finally made it to the pool, Garrison was still there, hanging over the edge and poking at something in the water.

Judging by the mess around the pool, they’d been out here after lunch having fun, and something must’ve fallen in.

Claire pointed at the pool as soon as she saw me. “Garrison’s necklace fell in. Go get it for him.”

I frowned. “It’s his necklace. Shouldn’t he be the one to get it?”

Garrison jumped in to smooth things over. “It’s fine, Claire. I’ll just go in and get it myself.” He tried to put his foot in, then pulled it back right away, acting like he was scared of the water.
