The wastes had always been an endless white void, and after several map refreshes, she’d never heard of any towns nearby.

“Yes… we lived a good life in the town.”

A flicker of terror passed through Joseph’s eyes. “Then one day, a blizzard like we’ve never seen arrived. The sky turned black, and the houses were crushed… when we woke up, the town was gone. Everyone was gone. There was only the snow and the three of

“We’ve walked for a whole day… only the three of us…”

Riley listened in silence.

Could they be natives?

Neeko had mentioned that there were people on the wastes before everything happened.

But this was her first time encountering human NPCs in the wild.

Riley pulled up the system interface to check, but the information was sparse.

“Target: Common Human (Native) Male”

“Level: None (No digitized body)”

“Status: Starving, Hypothermia (Critical), Frostbite.”

Seeing the three people about to turn into ice sculptures, Riley lowered her crossbow.

They weren’t players; no inventory, no Ul. Just locals.

“Poor souls.”

Riley sighed.

She wasn’t a cold-blooded monster. She didn’t mind lending a hand to harmless fellow humans in such a pathetic state.

With a thought, Riley reached into the air and made a grabbing motion.

Three Explorer’s Torches burning with orange flames appeared in her hands out of nowhere.

Explorer’s Torch: 24-hour burn time. Inherently provides various minor dispelling effects and a warming aura.

“Catch.”

Riley tossed the torches to the trio.

Joseph scrambled to catch them.

When the wave of warmth transferred from the torch to his frozen palms, his clouded eyes widened in shock.

“This… is this magical fire?!”

In this freezing storm, a normal torch flame would never be this steady.

But these flames were motionless, radiating warmth in a two-foot radius.

Next, as if performing a magic trick, Riley pulled a bag of “White Bread” and a flask of hot “Meat Soup” from thin air, placing them on the snow.

“Eat. Warm up your bodies.”

This scene completely shattered the natives’ understanding of reality.

In their world, someone who could conjure items and create eternal fire had only one title.

“A Wizard! A merciful Wizard!”

Joseph led the two youths in a frantic bowing motion. “Thank you for your blessing! You are an envoy sent by the gods to save us!”

Riley’s lip twitched.

A Wizard?

Fine. In a world with zero technology, a player with a system inventory wasn’t much different from a wizard.

“Stop bowing; I don’t believe in gods.”

Riley said flatly. “Eat up and follow me. It’s not safe here. If you have nowhere else to go, you can stay near my camp.”

Three hours later.

Riley led the three natives, who had recovered some strength, to the perimeter of her base. The return trip was significantly slower because she had to wait for them.

From a distance, Joseph spotted the camp looming over the tundra.

The towering stone walls, the shimmering energy shield, and the two auto-turrets slowly rotating in the wind.

Joseph murmured a prayer, the awe in his eyes intensifying.

As they approached the mine, Riley checked her security feed.

PineappleBeer and TartKing were gone; they’d left a message saying they’d finished their quota and headed home.

Riley had intended to take them into the base to rest while she figured out an arrangement, but the trio refused to set foot inside.

“We are but filthy refugees, my lady. We carry lice and the stench of death. We cannot enter such a holy sanctuary.”
