Chapter 285 The Black Altar

Chapter 285 The Black Altar

“Oh my god…”

TartKing covered her mouth in shock. “There’s such a huge hidden world down here?”

“That’s not even the craziest part.”

Riley’s gaze drifted past the lava rivers, locking firmly onto the center of the massive cavern.

Above the churning lava lake floated a lone island.

The strange landmass was built entirely from unknown black stone, giving off an ancient and solemn vibe.

The structure was pyramid-shaped with a flat top.

Right in the middle of the flat platform stood an eerie altar.

Dozens of massive black iron chains, each over thirty-three feet long, surrounded the altar. They twisted like black dragons and plunged deep into the lava below.

“What… is that thing?” Pineapple Beer’s voice came out dry and hoarse.

She had only ever seen such grand, intimidating scenery inside dungeons.

“Look up.”

Riley tilted her head and pointed toward the cavern’s ceiling.

Thick rock layers should have covered the sky above, but a permanent mass of dark fog swirled in their place. Embedded into the rock within the fog was a gigantic carved symbol.

It was a moon.

A broken, black moon that looked as if dark liquid slowly dripped across its surface.

Just staring at the symbol made Riley’s heart race. It felt as if something unseen was watching the underground realm coldly through the carved moon.

“Burger, this place creeps me out.”

TartKing glanced nervously around their surroundings. Even with the bright glow all around, the air felt undeniably unsettling.

“Should we go down?” PineappleBeer glanced back at the other two girls, clearly waiting for their decision.

“There are tons of monsters around us, but none of them are attacking. It’s like… they’re scared of that altar,” TartKing said.

She was right. The monsters clinging to the rocky walls kept roaring, yet none dared to look directly at the black altar in the center. It was as if the place was some kind of forbidden zone.

Riley could tell PineappleBeer wanted to explore the island. She scanned the terrain thoroughly, found no obvious dangers, and gave her consent.

Chapter 285 The Black Altar

“Alright. Let’s head down.”

The trio moved forward and quickly spotted a man-made path carved into the rock on the left side of the entrance.

it was a narrow stone trail winding down the steep cliff. The path had no guardrails and was barely three yards wide, but it stretched all the way to the black altar at the bottom of the cavern.

“Pine, take the rear. Tart, stay in the middle. I’ll lead the way.”

TartKing rummaged through her inventory and pulled out three Agility Potions, handing one to each of the other girls.

The cold-resistance potions she had prepared earlier were completely useless. None of them expected to find a massive lava pit hidden deep within the snowfield.

The three girls carefully descended the narrow stone path.

The temperature kept rising the further they went. The faint cold chill from above faded completely, replaced by suffocating heat.

The monsters on the surrounding rocky cliffs spotted them and let out only a few low, warning growls but never lunged forward. Every creature seemed wary of some invisible power.

The path was quiet and hazard-free.

It felt endlessly long, as if Riley had been walking for an entire century.

Eventually, their feet touched the ground of the black isolated island. Strangely enough, the intense heat softened slightly.

The black stone beneath their feet was ice cold, creating an eerie contrast against the boiling lava all around them.

“We’re here.”

Riley lifted her head.

They stood directly in front of the enormous black altar atop the pyramid-shaped stone structure.

Heat was the first thing Riley felt after stepping onto the island.

Churning lava surrounded them, and the dripping broken black moon loomed above their heads.

Still, nothing was as breathtaking as the altar right in front of them.

It was a massive obsidian platform. The stone floor was polished so smooth it acted like a mirror. Every slab fit together flawlessly, reflecting the blazing red lava and the dark moon above. It felt as though they walked on the thin line between hell and empty
