Chapter 220 A Different Kind of Life
Juliet lowered her head, guilt eating at her.
She hadn’t expected Denton to see through everything so quickly.

Michael, embarrassed and furious, stood up and slapped Denton across the face. “Why is it so hard for you to accept a trillion–dollar inheritance?”
Denton glared back at him. “Because that trillion–dollar inheritance used to be billions in debt. You signed away your rights back then. That makes me unqualified to claim any of it now. Isn’t that
your doing?”
Michael froze, speechless.
Denton’s eyes turned red as he walked away.
He wasn’t just angry. His parents had used their death to trick him. What hurt most was how powerless and disappointed he felt.
Who wouldn’t want a shortcut? Who wouldn’t want to suddenly become the grandson of the richest man in Harborton? Wouldn’t anyone be excited if a fortune just fell from the sky?
But if Michael had taken responsibility. If he hadn’t hurt Curtis, maybe Denton could walk back into that family with his head held high. But now? What right did he have?
Lincoln Group, Haldoria Branch.
Curtis sat in his office when his assistant walked in.
“Boss,” Kenneth said quietly, “Mr. Harold sent someone to a hospital in Haldoria to get a doctor to fake Juliet’s medical report. He wanted to pressure Denton into giving in. But the kid figured it out right away.”
Curtis’s eyes meet him.”
darkened. He looked at Kenneth and urged, “Get in touch with Denton. I want to
Kenneth asked worriedly, “Aren’t you worried he’s too calculating for someone his age?”
Curtis answered firmly. “If someone can think that clearly at nineteen, then he’s someone worth paying attention to. Set up a meeting for tonight. And make sure he tells no one.”

Curtis had asked Denton to meet. Denton arrived carly, riding his old mountain bike.
The place was Jeknard Private Kitchen, tucked inside a serene estate.
Quiet, elegant, and poetic, only the rich and powerful of Haldoria came here to dine.
Curtis chose this place on purpose.

Denton was young. His emotions were not always steady. Here, surrounded by calm beauty and composed people, things felt more controlled.
Luxury cars worth hundreds of thousands lined the entrance. And then there was Denton, the only teenager, riding a worn–out bike, sunlight wrapping around him like a golden coat. He stood out, but in a way that felt fresh and real.
Curtis sat in the room next to the garden, sipping tea, surrounded by the greens and soft wind. The world here felt distant and beautiful. Denton, with his bike and bright smile, looked like he didn’t belong.
And yet, Curtis almost envied him.
Denton had everything Curtis never did.
A carefree childhood, a spirited youth, and a simple kind of freedom.
His father might be a mess, but at least Denton had love, accompaniment, and sunshine.
Curtis, on the other hand, lost his mother as a child. He nearly died as a teenager and fought his way to power, only to be betrayed by the one person he trusted the most. Life had carved deep scars on him.
“Sir, bicycles can’t be parked here.” The staff looked stunned. This place didn’t even have a space for bicycles; no one ever rode one here. It really put him in a difficult spot.
“Help him park it,” Curtis said, his voice low as he leaned casually against the window frame.
Denton spotted Curtis and waved cheerfully. He called out a little shyly, “Curtis!”
The manager took one look and realized this kid was Curtis’s younger brother. He didn’t dare to say anything. He grabbed the bicycle and wheeled it inside while still processing it and even paid attention to handling it carefully. Could this beat–up old mountain bike be one of those legendary ones that’s somehow more expensive than a BMW?
Curtis sat there with no expression on his face. He couldn’t treat Denton warmly. They were born to be rivals.

“Curtis, thanks for buying me dinner,” Denton said with a bright smile. He had no pride or coldness in him–only sunlight. But that sunlight felt too bright. It stung a little, like tiny claws scratching at Curtis’s heart.
