Chapter 284 Handle It

Raymond needed Matthew now, so he could only keep a straight face and look at Paige. “Go out first.”
Paige got up unwillingly and left the office.
“How did it go?” Raymond asked as he straightened his suit.
Matthew’s voice was low. “Curtis is very interested in the project I proposed, but he has one condition. He won’t work with you. Because when he kidnapped Rex, Rex immediately folded and told Curtis that you told him to hit Curtis’s car.”
Raymond cursed under his breath and gritted his teeth. “That spineless trash.”
“So Curtis refused to invest in the Langford Group project,” Matthew said flatly.
“Matthew, I don’t care what method you use. You must close this investment,” Raymond gave Matthew an ultimatum. “Otherwise, get out of Langford Group.”
“You want to work with Curtis? Fine, but you need to give up power,” Matthew said bluntly. “Hand over the shares that belong to me. You step back to the second line. I can guarantee I’ll persuade Curtis to invest in our project.”
Raymond looked at Matthew suspiciously. “Are you trying to take advantage of this? Plotting against your old man?”
“If you think you still have other options, you can let someone else try. Like Rex,” Matthew sneered, laying his cards on the table. “You’re right. I am taking this chance to get what should’ve been mine. But whether you give it to me sooner or later, you’re still giving it. Think it over.”
With that, Matthew turned and left.
Raymond cursed under his breath. He knew Matthew was ambitious. If he handed over the shares, Matthew would be hard to control afterward. Still, Elise was firmly in Raymond’s grip, so he wasn’t afraid Matthew would go too far.
But the shares… he still didn’t really want to give them.
“Mr. Langford, I’ve got bad news!” the assistant rushed into the office. “You told me to keep an eye on Curtis. Recently, Curtis met with Justin from Barton Group, and today, he went to Ainsworth Group to meet their CEO.”

Raymond was already uneasy. Curtis could refuse to work with Langford Group and refuse to invest in their project, but he absolutely could not be pulled over to Ainsworth Group.
“Go get Matthew back in here. Now!”
Raymond panicked.
Matthew was called back again and looked at Raymond. “What is it?”
“Curtis went to Ainsworth Group! Ainsworth Group!” Raymond was frantic, like a clown jumping around.
These past few years, Ainsworth Group had really crushed Langford Group. Raymond’s biggest headache was Ainsworth Group. He was terrified they’d crush Langford Group for good.
That was exactly why Raymond was so eager to cooperate with the person behind the scenes.
Once Curtis was dealt with, that person would help him take on Ainsworth Group.
Then Langford Group would still sit at the top of Haldoria’s pyramid.
“Curtis is holding that much money. He’s not stupid. Of course, he’ll choose whoever offers better benefits and stronger projects. You had Rex try to run him over. The fact that he didn’t cling to the evidence and send Rex to prison already shows he didn’t want trouble. What do you think you can use to compete with Ainsworth Group?” Matthew found it ridiculous.
Raymond understood that, too, but this project had to be completed. “If I hand the shares to
you
in advance, how confident are you?”
“Eighty percent,” Matthew said confidently.
“That confident?” Raymond stared at him.
“This new energy project is something I’d already been discussing with Curtis long before his accident. We’d already mapped things out. As long as I take control, Curtis will put aside his grudges. After all, who doesn’t want a successful investment and a comeback?” Matthew fed Raymond exactly what he wanted to hear.
Raymond thought for a moment, then gritted his teeth and nodded. “Fine. Let me think it over. For now, contact Curtis and make sure he doesn’t work with Ainsworth Group in the short term.”
Meanwhile, at Ainsworth Group.

Ronan was swamped. He’d just finished a meeting and dragged himself into the office, collapsing onto the couch. “Mr. Lincoln, when are you going to openly take over Ainsworth Group? We’re on a hot streak lately. It’s nonstop work.”
Curtis glanced at Ronan calmly. “Are you not getting paid? Not getting your bonuses or shares?”
Ronan choked. “No, that’s not what I mean. I’m not complaining. I love overtime. I love meetings… I just mean, I’m worried you’ll get bored being this relaxed.”
Curtis lifted his phone. “I’m chatting with my wife. I’m not bored.”
Ronan rolled his eyes and lay there, playing dead.
He was exhausted to death and still had to watch the big boss show off his love life. But what could he do? The guy was the boss…
“I can’t step into Ainsworth Group’s decision–making right now. My style is completely different from yours. If I interfere, anyone sharp will notice immediately. So you’ll have to work harder for now. If you really can’t handle it, squeeze Kenneth,” Curtis said, raising an eyebrow at Ronan.
“I can handle it!” Ronan didn’t dare squeeze Kenneth. As Curtis’s assistant, Kenneth had picked up far too many bad habits. Even though Kenneth was technically Ronan’s assistant now, Ronan really didn’t dare order that guy around.
