Chapter 285 A Gamble

For example, at last night’s social engagement, Ronan only paused slightly while speaking, and Kenneth took it upon himself to read between the lines. Right there at the dinner, he arranged a small–time actress to keep Ronan company … nearly getting him into serious trouble.
And then later that night, when he got home, he just sneezed once. Kenneth, acting on his own, shut off the central air and even flipped the main breaker! Ronan woke up half the night later, sweating. But since he was unable to find the breaker switch, he basically steamed in a high–temperature sauna all night…
“Have Kenneth take you out to relax tonight,” Curtis said meaningfully.
Ronan immediately snapped upright, waving his hands. “No need… Kenneth works hard, too. Let him go relax on his own. I’m not tired at all!”
The corners of Curtis’s mouth lifted.
“By the way, Raymond from Langford Group called me earlier. He asked whether Ainsworth Group has been trying to get you to invest lately. I answered exactly the way you told me to. I said there is indeed a project seeking investment, and that you’ve already agreed.” Ronan remembered the call and reported it to Curtis.
Curtis nodded. “Yeah, stick with that.”
At Langford Group.
After getting Ronan’s confirmation, Raymond completely panicked. If Curtis invested his money in Ainsworth Group, he could really make a comeback.
Ainsworth Group was genuinely powerful now. It wasn’t something they could casually control
anymore.
If Curtis casually invested in a small company, they could still step in and make him lose everything. But Ainsworth Group… That was out of their hands.
“Mister … Ronan from Ainsworth Group contacted Curtis a long time ago. He’s already pulled him into one of their investment projects.” Raymond could only call the person behind the
scenes.
“I told you to scam all the money out of Curtis’s hands, and instead you let him invest with a rival. Idiot.” The mysterious person on the other end was clearly angry.

Raymond didn’t dare say a word.
“Do whatever it takes. Curtis must not invest in Ainsworth Group!”
With that, the other party hung up.

Raymond wiped the sweat off his forehead. It looked like he had no choice but to meet Matthew’s conditions for now and hand over Matthew’s share first. Later, he figured he could still find a way to control him through Elise.
“Matthew, come in for a moment,” Raymond called.
Matthew walked into the office and looked at Raymond.
“I agree to give you the shares, but you have to bring Curtis’s investment over first,” Raymond said, still playing the old fox.
“Sorry. Curtis isn’t stupid. Without seeing the equity transfer, he won’t be tempted easily. Besides … I just got a call saying Curtis is already preparing to invest in Ainsworth Group. Your agreement to give me the shares is too late. Even if you give me my shares now, I can’t make it happen anymore. Unless…” Matthew began pushing his luck.
“Unless what?” Raymond slammed the desk, anxious.
Matthew studied Raymond carefully. Just how terrifying is the person behind him, to scare him to this extent?
“Unless you also hand over the shares you’re holding to me in advance,” Matthew said calmly.
He didn’t bother hiding it anymore. This move was a gamble. If he won, he’d completely take control of Langford Group. If he lost, he might be kicked out of it entirely.
All these years, he’d been cautious and patient, but all he got in return was Raymond and those illegitimate children pushing further and further. He had no choice but to take a risky step.
“Matthew!” Raymond stared at him in disbelief. This was outright extortion.
“You’re my father. I’m the only son you had with my mom. If you don’t give your shares to me, are you planning to split them among those illegitimate kids? I’ve been in Langford Group for so many years. Without me, there wouldn’t be a Langford Group today. You sure you want to hand shares to a few deadweights and put the company at risk?” Matthew said in a deep voice.
Raymond snorted. “You really are ambitious. You want all the shares in
my
hands!”
Matthew raised an eyebrow. “Whether you give them or not is up to you.”

“If I give you the shares, and you still don’t bring in Curtis’s investment?” Raymond narrowed his eyes.
Matthew pulled out his phone and casually called Curtis, letting Raymond hear everything. “Hey, Curtis. It’s me, Matthew.”
“What’s up? Asking me out for drinks tonight?” Curtis joked on the other end, sounding like they were on great terms.
Both of them were fully committed to the act. In reality, every time they met, they wanted to strangle each other.
“If I take control of Langford Group, you’ll still invest in that new energy project we talked about before, right?” Matthew asked with a smile.
“Don’t worry. That’s a project we already agreed on before. I’ll definitely invest. Putting money into it won’t be a problem. But I don’t trust your dad or those illegitimate kids of his. As long as that illegitimate son stays in Langford Group, I won’t feel safe investing. The one in control of Langford Group has to be you,” Curtis said seriously.
On this side, Raymond was practically grinding his teeth to dust.
But as long as he let Matthew take control, Curtis would definitely invest.
