Raymond knew that as long as Curtis invested the money into Langford Group, he’d have ways to tamper with things behind the scenes.
“Matthew, you know that if I give all the shares to you, your brothers are definitely going to make a scene.” After Matthew hung up, Raymond deliberately put on a troubled look.
…
“Dad, you’re just transferring the shares to me. You’ll still be the one with real control. After all, the senior management is all your people. Besides my mom loves you. She can’t live without you. Even if I hold the shares, I wouldn’t drive those illegitimate kids out of Langford Group. I’m not someone who wipes people out completely. As long as they behave, I’ll make sure they have food on the table and a roof over their heads.”
Matthew flipped the script and started selling Raymond a dream instead.
“Let me think about it.” Raymond was still hesitating. He knew very well that shares were safest only when they stayed in his own hands.
That was exactly what Matthew wanted. He wanted Raymond to hesitate, then to take the initiative to contact the person behind the scenes.
He wanted to see just how powerful that person really was… to make Raymond give up even his shares.
Matthew left the office. Raymond didn’t agree right away, which meant he’d definitely prepare thoroughly.
Once the shares were handed over, trying to get them back later would require some dirty tricks.
And the only leverage Raymond had over Matthew was Elise and Mia, who were still in prison. Mia would get out sooner or later, and Matthew cared deeply about her.
“Dad, you can’t give all the shares to Matthew. If you give them to him, what about me?” Rex exploded the moment he heard Raymond planned to give the shares to Matthew.
“What’s the rush?” Raymond sat in his chair and looked at Rex. “Under normal circumstances, even with his contributions to Langford Group, the shares you’d eventually get would still be very little, unless he makes a huge mistake.”
Rex sat there, unconvinced.

“Give him all the shares. Let him go pull in Curtis’s investment. If he succeeds, that means he’s capable. If he fails, the shares come back! And once Curtis agrees to inject capital, we’ll secretly mess with the project. When the project runs into trouble, and Curtis’s money goes down the drain, Matthew won’t escape responsibility either. Then we make him resign out of shame and hand all the shares to you.” Raymond coaxed Rex.
They say when a man’s heart belongs to a woman, he favors her child. Turns out that’s absolutely true.
Raymond’s heart was entirely with Paige, so Rex naturally got more favoritism.
“What if he refuses to hand them over when the time comes?” Rex was uneasy. Once Matthew got what he wanted, why would he let go?
“Langford Group’s top management is all my people. As long as he makes a major mistake, everyone will force him to resign. And besides management, I still hold the thing he fears most: his mom. What he fears most is me divorcing her. If I bring up divorce, Elise will be embarrassed and threaten to kill herself. And if he doesn’t hand over the shares, I’ll divorce his mom. Then no one will take care of Mia either.”
Raymond was extremely confident. As a father, he believed he understood his eldest son very well.
Matthew has always cared deeply about Elise since he was little. He’ll definitely compromise.
Rex was still unwilling, as if everything in Langford Group should belong to him.
Seeing Raymond grow impatient, he could only agree for now. “I got it, Dad.”
“And remember, you and Matthew are brothers. Keeping peace between you two beats anything.” Raymond reminded Rex again.
To be honest, Rex was inferior to Matthew in every way.
He only got by because Raymond doted on him.
“Got it, Dad.” Rex agreed against his will.
He left the office with a dark expression, already plotting in his own mind. If Matthew refuses to hand over the shares later, I’ll have someone kill him.
Back at the villa, Adriana hummed while cooking dinner.

Ever since Nicole went to prison, Adriana felt like even the classroom air had become fresh and clean again.
Ding–dong. The doorbell rang.
Adriana went to open the door and saw Savannah.
She froze for a moment. How did she find this place? “Do you need something?”
Savannah walked in like it was her own home, pushing past Adriana. “Didn’t I tell you already? You were supposed to set up a dinner so Denton and Curtis could share a meal. They’re brothers. They should spend time together.”
Savannah didn’t even change her shoes as she walked into the living room, looking around. “This place is nice. It probably counts as part of Mr. Harold’s inheritance, too, right? He gave Curtis so much. Money can’t be taken to the grave. Denton deserves some of it, too. You should make the call and tell Curtis to give this house to Denton.”
Savannah spoke calmly and confidently. Anyone who didn’t know better would think she was the Lincolns‘ founding matriarch.
