“Come in.” Curtis’s voice was low as he stepped back to let Matthew through.

Adriana blinked. She stood up automatically to greet the guest, but the second she saw who it was, her face dropped.

Her eyes narrowed. “What the hell are you doing here?”

“Adriana,” Curtis said, keeping his voice calm, “I’m working on a project with Langford Group. Once it’s set, the people behind all this will come for me hard. We have to be ready. I trust Matthew.”

“I don’t care about money…” Adriana shook her head, voice cracking.

Matthew watched her quietly. His chest tightened. He wanted to comfort her, but he had no right anymore.
