Matthew glanced at him and smiled faintly.

Now that he held all the cards, Raymond had no right to bark orders anymore. Yet he acted like he owned the place. But that was fine. There was no rush.
This was only the beginning.
Curtis had handed Matthew the Lincoln family’s entire inheritance. And, for now, Adriana too.
“Mr. Lincoln, thank you for your trust. It’s been a pleasure working with you.” Raymond was already struggling to keep up the act, but Curtis wasn’t dead yet. He had to keep pretending just a little longer.
The room filled with polite applause from both sides. The project was massive. The money behind it was enormous. Everyone looked forward to seeing it completed.
But that day? It probably wasn’t coming.
Once Curtis and his assistant left with their team, Raymond’s whole expression twisted.
As soon as the executives cleared out, he slammed the table in front of Matthew. “The funds are in. Get them to the offshore account right away.”
That account belonged to the people backing Matthew. It was used for money laundering purposes. It was under a shell company. The project files and data were all fake. The funds would be wiped clean. Untraceable. Unstoppable. They would leave nothing behind.
Matthew reached out and took the slip with the account info. He casually snapped a photo of it without Raymond noticing. Then he sent it straight to Curtis.
Tracking down the shell companies behind the account and the people running the laundering might finally give them something solid.
“This went well. You did great.” Raymond was clearly in a good mood. Curtis was about to die, and none of it would be traced back to Raymond. All he did was scam the money,
“Alright then, I’ll go get ready.” Matthew stood up and headed for the door.
“Matthew, now that the deal’s done, how about handing those shares back? The control and ownership should stay with me. Once I’m too old to manage, they’ll be yours anyway.” Raymond’s voice turned soft, like he was pacifying a toddler.

Matthew almost laughed. What a joke. Anything in his hands wasn’t leaving anytime soon.
“Sure. I’ll take care of it soon. But Dad, you just handed me those shares with a lot of noise, and now you’re trying to yank them back through the board. I’m afraid that’ll shake my authority in the company. That’ll hurt the company’s future. And it’ll hurt me too. Let’s give it some time.” He kept a calm smile on his face.
Everyone could act if they wanted to.
Raymond didn’t like what he heard, but Matthew had a point.
“How about you remind me on Mom’s birthday?” Matthew tossed him a date, just to stop him from showing up every few days.
Raymond nodded. “Fine. We’ll go with that.”
As Matthew stepped out, he spotted Rex heading inside with a gloomy look.
Matthew looked down at him like he was watching a mutt that had lost its home.
Now, Langford Group was entirely in his hands. His team had already started making quiet changes on the inside. He just had to stall until his mother’s birthday. By then, no one could flip the board back.
He smirked, then let out a cold chuckle and walked away.
Rex scoffed and walked into the office. “Dad, did you see how full of himself Matthew is? When are you taking the shares back?”
“What’s the rush? I just gave them to him. If I snatch them now, how’s he supposed to manage anything? If you had even half his skill, I wouldn’t be stuck worrying all the time.” Raymond let out a deep breath.
Rex let out another grunt. He didn’t see how he was any less than Matthew.
“Keep your head down for now. Don’t stir anything up. He’s got the shares. Once his mom’s birthday comes around, I’ll talk him into giving them back. We’ll deal with everything else
after that.”
Raymond shot him a warning. Now wasn’t the time to act like a fool.
“Okay…”
“That’s enough. Get out.” Raymond waved him off like he couldn’t stand the sight of him.

Rex snorted under his breath and left.
Raymond pulled out his phone in secret and made a call.
“Is it done?”
“Yes, sir. Everything’s taken care of.” Raymond’s voice turned smooth and eager.
“Good. You did a fine job. When will the money hit the offshore account?”

“I already had Matthew take care of it. Once the paperwork clears, the transfer’s good to go.” Raymond smiled as he spoke.
“Great. Appreciate your work.” The call ended there.
Raymond leaned back, feeling pleased with himself. It felt like he’d just pulled off something major.
And he had. The Lincolns had ruled the game for years. Harold’s life savings and all the Lincolns‘ cash flow were locked up now. Every single penny.
Once Curtis was gone, there’d be no one left to speak up. Even if Adriana showed up with a kid, trying to make a case, it wouldn’t change a damn thing.
That money? It was all tied up in Curtis‘ investments. And by law, not even his wife or child had a claim to it.
So when he died, Adriana would walk away with almost nothing. Maybe a few houses. That was
Sure, to the average person, it was a jackpot. But to Raymond and the people behind him, it wasn’t even worth counting.
