The rumors didn’t stop. Some said she had married him for his fortune. Others whispered that Curtis‘ death wasn’t an accident, and that she had something to do with it.
The coverage was relentless.
Yolanda made sure Adriana never saw it. She kept her phone away.
Adriana stayed silent. She didn’t speak. She didn’t read. She didn’t move.
But Natasha and her crew didn’t wait long.
They’d been circling like vultures, waiting for Curtis to fall. Waiting for Adriana to stand alone.
They thought she was done for. Back at the bottom. Easy prey.
“Adriana, you’re a curse,” Natasha sneered. “Curtis died because of you.” She and Danielle had shown up pretending to pay their respects. But they weren’t here to mourn. They came to laugh at her.
Adriana didn’t answer. She didn’t look at them. She treated them like they didn’t exist.
One thought drowned out everything else. Curtis wasn’t dead. This was just part of the plan.
She kept telling herself that. If she said it enough, maybe it would come true. Curtis would come back.
“Back off. Show some respect and leave,” Denton said, stepping in front of her. His voice was sharp. He wouldn’t let anyone touch his sister–in–law.
Natasha smirked and placed a lily on the side table. She leaned in and whispered with a twisted smile. “Adriana, I told you before. The day you lost Curtis… that’s the day your life ends.”
Then she turned and strutted out like she’d won
Yolanda nearly snapped, but Adriana grabbed her wrist and held her back.
“Adriana, my deepest sympathies,” Danielle said sweetly. She laid a lily down, then glanced over her shoulder with a smirk. “I heard you didn’t get much from Curtis‘ estate. That’s rough.”
With that, she turned and left, strolling out with Natasha beside her.
Savannah waited near the gate. She scanned the area, then motioned them over.

“You both saw Curtis‘ body, right? No mistake?” Danielle asked in a low voice.
Savannah
gave a calm smile. “I saw him with my own eyes. He’s gone.”

She actually looked proud. “My dad was the one who dressed him. I watched as the chamber sealed. I saw the flames. He’s ash now. He’s not coming back.”
Natasha’s lips curled with satisfaction. She didn’t even try to hide the gleam in her eyes.
All three of them thought they’d won.
They were thrilled to see Adriana crash back to the bottom.
“We’ll see how she ends up,” Danielle said, still smiling.
“She married Curtis and didn’t even cash out. She burned every bridge she had. She’ll be worse off than she was as a nobody,” Savannah sneered.
Natasha scoffed and glanced back at the funeral home. Adriana sat frozen inside, clutching Curtis‘ portrait like a statue. “She ruined my brother’s life. He’s rotting in prison. The Jones family and the Langfords won’t ever let her off the hook. All we have to do is wait.”
“I noticed how protective Matthew was earlier. When we walked up, he was watching her closely. If she clings to him, we might run into problems,” Danielle said, eyes sharp as she looked at Natasha. She reminded Natasha to come up with a counter play for that.
Natasha’s smile vanished. “She might be shameless, but the Langfords still have a name to protect. No way they’ll accept a woman who buried her husband. And she’s the one who threw Mia in jail. That door’s already closed. I’ll go straight to Matthew’s mom. She’ll make sure Adriana stays out.”
Danielle and Savannah nodded, both wearing the same smug expression.
Now that Curtis was out of the picture, they weren’t even trying to hide their alliance.
After they left, Yolanda stepped out from behind a pillar and snorted. Just like she thought. Snakes, all of them.
They didn’t bother keeping up the act anymore.
She turned to look at Adriana. Her chest tightened. Adriana hadn’t moved an inch. She sat there clutching the photo, her face blank.
Without Curtis, what would happen to her?

Yolanda exhaled and walked over. She sat beside her quietly. “Adriana … you’ve got to hold on,” she said gently.
Adriana didn’t blink. Her voice came out like sandpaper. “I won’t give them the satisfaction.”
Yolanda wrapped an arm around her and pulled her in. “Good. We’re not letting them win.”
Adriana hadn’t shed a single tear. She just waited. She was waiting for the bouquet Kenneth promised.
She kept thinking too. If Curtis was really gone, what was she supposed to do? She couldn’t even picture her life anymore.
Then Kenneth walked in. “Mrs. Lincoln. My condolences,” he said. In his hands was the white lily she’d been waiting for.
Not one stem. An entire bouquet.
That was the one she and Curtis had picked out together.
Her hands started to shake. She couldn’t stop the tears anymore. They came fast and heavy.
She rose to her feet and accepted the bouquet of white lilies. Her fingers trembled as they closed around the stems.
