“But, Daddy…”
Lucas was agitated and on edge. Natalie spoke to him gently. “Lucas, he’s your father, and he’s the head of the Lockwood family. He has his reasons. So even when you disagree, you need to speak to him calmly and respectfully. Do you understand?”
Lucas nodded slowly. “I understand, Natalie.”
He turned to his father. “Dad, I’m sorry. I was upset, and my tone was out of line.”
Terence was genuinely surprised to hear his son apologize. Like him, Lucas was not one for apologies, especially not when he was angry. The fact that Natalie could get him to do so was remarkable.
Natalie faced Terence. “I respect your decision, and I’ll abide by it.”
“You said you’ll abide by my decision. Are you sure?”
Liana shook her head pleadingly, while Lucas added reluctantly, [Daddy, please.]
Natalie nodded firmly. “I’m sure. I will follow your arrangements.”
Follow his arrangements, which meant he would fire her and then find a more suitable tutor for his children. After all, her constant scandals weren’t good for them.
“Become my Mrs. Lockwood,” Terence said, his voice perfectly even. “The rumors will disappear on their own.”
The statement was so unexpected it nearly sent Natalie’s soul flying out of her body.
What kind of joke was this?
Become his Mrs. Lockwood? Was he running a fever?
It took Lucas a moment to process his father’s words, and then his face lit up. He realized his dad wasn't saying she was unsuitable as a tutor, but perfectly suitable as their mom.
