“Is your Fairchild family wealthier than my Lockwood family?”
Terence’s voice was cool and steady, yet the question sent a shiver down Clara Fairchild’s spine.
“Mr. Lockwood, you must be joking,” she stammered. “The Lockwood family is the most prominent in Eldoria City. We would never dare to compare ourselves to you.”
Terence’s expression was deceptively pleasant. “Exactly. So it’s impossible for her to be coveting the Fairchild family’s assets, especially since she just rejected my… proposal.”
His words hit the crowd like a thunderclap. Jaws dropped to the floor. Natalie felt an urge to stoop down and pick up her own.
Terence Lockwood, had he lost his mind?
If she had known he was going to drop a bomb like that, she would have faced the mob herself.
Could someone please recall one Terence Lockwood, effective immediately?
The reporters erupted. He was the head of the most powerful family in the city, his every move scrutinized. And now he was publicly admitting that he had proposed to the infamous Natalie, and she had turned him down.
“Mr. Lockwood, what are you saying? You proposed to Natalie, and she rejected you? Do you have any idea what kind of woman she is?”
“Mr. Lockwood, your family is at the top of Eldoria City’s high society. You could have your pick of any debutante. Why would you choose a divorcée who has a child? Does she have some kind of special talent that captivated you?”
“Mr. Lockwood, Natalie was photographed with Old Mr. Fairchild. They went into this villa together last night and didn’t come out. Were you unaware of this, or do you truly not mind?”
The reporters were so curious.
Natalie watched him, a strange feeling stirring within her. She was so used to being slandered that she had almost forgotten how to defend herself. Now, someone was fighting for her.
From the crowd, Marie glared daggers at Natalie.
First Darren, now Terence Lockwood.
Was Natalie doing this on purpose just to spite her? She was the one who was supposed to be set up with Terence Lockwood. What right did Natalie have to even be near him?
The reporters had fallen silent, but Marie couldn’t let the scandal die so easily.
“Mr. Lockwood,” she said with a saccharine smile, “you haven’t known Natalie for very long, so it’s easy to be fooled by her innocent act. But I was her sister-in-law for years. I know exactly what kind of person she is: vain, manipulative, and a social climber. She is absolutely not worthy of you.”

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
