Edward ignored her, continuing to apologize to Natalie.
“Ms. Verdan, I am so sorry. You saved my daughter, and my wife treated you this way. I hope you can forgive us.”
“It’s alright,” Natalie replied. “I saved the child because I studied medicine. Saving people is my duty.”
She didn’t think of what she did as something extraordinary; it was simply a responsibility. Her lack of pretension and the clarity in her eyes made an impression on the media. For the first time, they began to feel a flicker of goodwill toward her. Maybe she wasn’t like the rumors at all.
After thanking Natalie, Edward turned to his wife. “You should say something.”
“Natalie, thank you for saving my daughter,” Clara said stiffly. “I’m sorry for questioning you earlier.”
Marie watched from the sidelines, completely dumbfounded. The very person she had brought here to tear Natalie apart was now thanking and apologizing to her.
How could the drama continue now? All her efforts to bring Clara here had been for nothing.
Clara’s expression was grim. She was grateful that Natalie had saved her daughter, but her mind was still fixated on the two-hundred-million-dollar villa that might fall into Natalie’s hands. Even though Natalie had cured her father and saved her daughter, and deserved a reward, two million would be more than enough. Two hundred million was just too much.
“Is the child’s surgery scheduled?” Natalie asked Edward.
“Yes, it’s for the day after tomorrow. It’s all thanks to you.”
Natalie simply nodded. She didn’t dwell on Clara’s rude behavior, neither holding a grudge nor offering forgiveness. She just didn’t care.
Clara was about to say something else when her father spoke in a commanding voice.
