When Natalie mentioned the word family, Lucas and Liana’s eyes lit up. That was right. Natalie was their family.
Mrs. Lockwood was surprised to see how obedient the children were with Natalie.
Her grandson had always been ill-tempered and volatile. Even psychologists had struggled to make any headway with him.
Yet Natalie could handle him so easily. For that reason alone—her ability to manage her grandson—she was already an exceptional candidate for a daughter-in-law.
Terence approached, his expression cool. “Mom, what are you doing here?”
Mrs. Lockwood patted Terence’s cheek. “My dear son, what do you think I’m doing? Are you that afraid I’ll do something to Natalie?”
She straightened up, her expression bright. “I’m not an old fossil like your grandmother. If you and the children like her, you have my support.”
Just then, the old matriarch walked over. “Who are you calling an old fossil?”
Mrs. Lockwood gave an awkward laugh, having forgotten whose territory she was on.
“Mother, I was just saying you have such a rich sense of history. You’re wise and learned, the very backbone of the Lockwood family.”
“Keep spinning your tales. I can see right through you. Honestly, you’d support them without even knowing anything about this woman’s background. What would this family do without me?”
“You’re right, Mother. We must be thorough and vet her properly. We can’t be careless.”
Natalie felt a little awkward. It seemed the two women hadn't really heard what she was saying. Perhaps she needed to be more direct.
Old Mrs. Lockwood’s brow tightened as she said sternly, “Is that why you’ve become so attached to her? Because she said those things? Have you ever considered that she might just be a manipulative fraud?”
“We only found out today that Natalie was planning to treat Daddy and Liana. She never mentioned it before. She only ever talked about helping me get into the Helios Institute for Advanced Minds.”
Lucas's words left both Old Mrs. Lockwood and Mrs. Lockwood utterly shocked.
The Helios Institute for Advanced Minds was the most elite gathering of intellects in Aurelis.
Its junior division was notoriously difficult to get into, a one-in-a-million shot.
It wasn't something money could buy; it required true, exceptional talent.

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
