Caught Him Cheating My Life Restarted (Natalie) novel Chapter 142

Darren stared at Marie, his eyes burning. "Is this how you're teaching Hanley? From now on, stay out of it. I'll raise him myself!"

Marie panicked, her face contorting with displeasure. "What's that supposed to mean? You think I'm doing a bad job teaching Hanley?"

"Starting today, you will no longer be involved in Hanley's affairs."

"Darren, how could you do this to me?"

Marie was hysterical, but Darren simply took Hanley by the hand and started to leave.

Marie yelled after him, defiant, "Where are you taking him? Are you taking him to see Natalie? It's useless! She's latched onto Terence Lockwood now. For the sake of his children, she's willing to hurt her own son. She gave up on you both a long time ago."

Her words struck a nerve. Darren stopped and turned back to look at Marie. "Why did she leave? Why did she abandon her own child? You know the answer to that better than anyone."

Marie seethed. Darren was truly bewitched by that woman. Was it because he saw Natalie with Terence and couldn't stand it?

"Darren, what are you trying to say? Why are you protecting her? You've always looked down on her from the bottom of your heart. She's just the daughter of a gambling addict. You felt she wasn't fit to raise the future heir of the Cross Group, which is why you entrusted Hanley to me. What have I done wrong? I'm teaching him how to be a proper heir. What's wrong with that?"

"It was my mistake," Darren said, his voice firm despite his icy gaze. "What he needs right now isn't to learn how to be a proper heir, but to learn how to respect the mother who raised him."

Marie was about to lose her mind. Mrs. Cross chimed in, "What are you doing? Marie has done such a wonderful job raising the boy. What has gotten into you?"

Darren shot Mrs. Cross a cold glance. "You'll stay out of it from now on as well. I will teach Hanley myself."

Liana gestured in agreement.

[That's right, Natalie. You're already so tired from teaching us. You can't work that hard anymore.]

Terence spoke up. "Let's eat out. We'll call it a celebration."

"Alright, then."

A memory surfaced for Natalie. In the past, no matter what the occasion was—Mrs. Cross's birthday, Marie's birthday, even the cat's birthday—the method of celebration was always the same: she had to cook a feast. Sometimes, after slaving away all day, everyone would just pick at their food for a few bites.

It suddenly occurred to her that you could celebrate by eating out. The Cross family wasn't short on money, but perhaps making her cook was easier because it cost them nothing.
