Darren’s face was grim. "Kid, this is our family business. Natalie is Hanley’s mother. No matter what Hanley has done, he's still young. As his mother, she should forgive him and take care of her own child."

"Why should Natalie have to put up with that?"

"She brought him into this world, so she is responsible for him. Don't you understand? You'll know when you have your own mother. You should go find your own mother instead of clinging to someone else's."

Darren smirked, but Terence simply raised an eyebrow. "Coincidentally, the mother I've found for them happens to be Natalie."

Terence looked at Natalie. "Don't be trapped by the title of 'mother.' You are not anyone's nanny. You have no obligation to peel shrimp for anyone, and you certainly have no obligation to forgive someone who hurts you just because he's your child. The flesh and blood you fought to bring into this world should never be a knife turned against you."

Natalie’s eyes softened. In that moment, it felt as though Terence had soothed a corner of her pain.

"Thank you. Let's eat. The children must be hungry."

Natalie gave Terence a small smile, completely ignoring Darren who was still standing there.

Darren was stunned. What did she mean? Was she going to continue eating with them and not him?

He had already offered her a way out. Was she really planning to abandon her own child? What more did she want?

Darren snapped, "Natalie, how long are you going to keep this up?"

Lucas plugged his ears. "Daddy, the ambiance in this restaurant is nice, but it's a little too noisy to eat properly."
