Hearing Natalie's words, Mrs. Lockwood's disappointment was visible.
But a moment later, her spirits lifted again.
"It's my fault for being too hasty," Mrs. Lockwood said. "You're in a healing period right now. I shouldn't be adding any more pressure on you. I'm truly sorry."
Mrs. Lockwood felt she was in the wrong, that she had been too impatient. Natalie had just ended a marriage, her son wasn't with her, and she was emotionally wounded. How could she possibly open her heart to another relationship?
As Mrs. Lockwood apologized to her, Natalie quickly said, "Mrs. Lockwood, you don't need to apologize to me. You've done nothing wrong."
"Natalie, please don't feel pressured. Things are fine just the way they are now. Being with the Lockwood family can at least offer you some shelter from the storm. Just do whatever makes you feel comfortable. It's all good."
"Thank you."
Being with the Lockwood family, Natalie was finally learning what it felt like to be respected.
Her feelings were always taken into consideration.
Who had ever respected her feelings before? She had always been treated as nothing more than a tool.
Mrs. Lockwood showed off the pills Natalie had given her. "I should be thanking you for making these wonderful pills for me. When my skin is as smooth as a peeled egg, I'm going to show off to all my friends and make them green with envy. Do you think it will really work that well?"
Mrs. Lockwood was getting excited. Natalie nodded, and a look of pure delight spread across the older woman's face.
Seeing Mrs. Lockwood so happy made Natalie happy too.
Being needed and affirmed was a wonderful feeling.
Just then, Natalie's phone rang.
She looked at the screen and saw it was Victoria Cross.
She decisively rejected the call.
Victoria had already called several times, and Natalie had ignored every one. She had nothing to say to her.
But she wasn't giving up.
On the other end of the line, Victoria was furious. How dare this woman ignore her calls? After what she did to her grandson, she had the nerve to not answer her phone? She would not let her get away with this.
Mrs. Lockwood looked at Natalie with sadness. "Your kindness was completely wasted on them. Your former mother-in-law will live to regret it one day."
Victoria would regret it? Natalie didn't think so, at least not for now.
"Don't worry. The people who bullied you will not get away with it!"
Mrs. Lockwood was smiling, but in her mind, she was already plotting.
A former mother-in-law, was she? She would find an opportunity to teach her a lesson!
A lesson on how a wonderful daughter-in-law like Natalie should be cherished.
...
On the way to the retirement home.
Previously, when she was planning to divorce Darren and take her son abroad, she thought she wouldn't be able to visit the seniors at the retirement home anymore. But now that she was staying, she wanted to continue providing them with medical care.

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
