Her brother was calling Hanley an idiot.
Hanley swallowed his pride. If Lucas didn't come, how could he rub his face in it?
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Just make sure you both show up to my birthday party.”
Hanley walked away after saying his piece. Lucas just smirked.
He had to give the kid credit. He clearly understood the insult but pretended not to. He was willing to endure the humiliation just for the chance to show off at his party.

The Cross Estate
The moment he got home, Hanley frantically started looking for Marie.
“Auntie, where are you? Auntie!”
Marie rolled her eyes in annoyance. What was all the racket about? He sounded like he was trying to summon a ghost.
“Auntie, there you are! Didn’t you hear me calling you?”
Marie, who had been looking disgusted just a moment before, quickly put on a warm, kind expression. “Hanley, were you calling me? I’m so sorry, I didn’t hear you. I was just thinking about business for the Cross Group.”
“Auntie, you work so hard.”
“Everything I do is for you, Hanley. The harder I work, the more you’ll have in the future. When I think of that, I don’t feel tired at all.”
“Auntie, you’re so good to me,” Hanley said, looking deeply moved.
“Of course I am.”
Marie smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes. She felt nothing but contempt, yet she forced a gentle tone. “Hanley, was there something you needed me for?”
Hanley looked up at her excitedly. “Auntie, my birthday is in a few days. You said you were going to throw me a big party. Can I invite my classmates?”
Marie feigned excitement. “Of course you can! It’s Hanley’s party, so Hanley gets to decide!”
Marie choked on her tea, spraying it everywhere.
What? Who did this little brat want to invite?
Patrick Mercer?
The international intelligence champion, who had recently made a major breakthrough in condensed matter physics and had just been elected as an academician of the Academy of Sciences—Aurelis’s youngest academician, Patrick Mercer.
An academician wasn't someone you could just hire for a birthday party!
“He’s a global champion and now the youngest academician. He’s not some celebrity you can just invite to events. How do you kids even know who he is?”
“We watch videos of him online! Patrick is so cool, especially when he’s competing against foreigners. We never skip his videos when they pop up. He’s the real deal. Those celebrities are just acting. If you’re going to be a fan of someone, it should be someone with actual talent.”
Hanley spoke with great passion, but Marie’s face grew increasingly grim.
The stupid little kid actually watched educational videos and had become a fan of Patrick Mercer.

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
