Hanley froze for a second. He had been so focused on boasting to get his status back that he hadn't considered they would actually ask him to bring Patrick Mercer to them.
The children pressed him.
“Why aren’t you saying anything? Were you just bragging?”
“You can’t just hire Patrick Mercer, even with money.”
Although they were all from wealthy families, they knew Mr. Mercer was famously private and avoided public events outside of competitions.
“That’s nothing,” Hanley blustered. “My birthday is in a few days, and my auntie said she’s throwing me a huge party this time. I’ll just have her invite Patrick over.”
Hanley’s announcement electrified the other students.
“Hanley, you can invite Patrick to your birthday party? That’s so cool! Can we come to your party?”
“Me too! I want to go too!”
Seeing the kids’ excited reactions, Hanley said proudly, “Even though our party venue is huge and can fit all of you, I’m not inviting just anyone.”
This made the children even more desperate.
“Invite me! Invite me! I’m your good friend.”
“Hanley, you’re my best friend!”
Finding himself at the center of attention once again, Hanley felt extremely smug. He shot a challenging look at Lucas and Liana.
Lucas found Hanley’s behavior pathetic. Bragging about his auntie throwing him a party? That woman was just the other woman, and yet he was constantly sucking up to her.
“Alright, you can all come,” Hanley declared. “The entire class is invited, except for Lucas and Liana.”
“Why aren’t they invited?”
“Because they didn’t sign up!” Hanley said with a smirk.
One of the children turned to them. “Lucas, Liana, you should sign up too! Don’t you want to see Patrick sooner?”
“Yeah, sign up! Hanley will let you come.”
“Lucas!” Hanley was furious, but then he had an idea. He had to get him to come so he could see how lavish the party was. That would really show him!
His auntie had promised him that his birthday party would be the grandest in all of Aurelis.
Controlling his anger, Hanley said, “I know you’re just trying to make yourself feel better, since everyone else gets to come. Fine. Since others are speaking up for you, you two can come. Come and see what a top-tier Aurelis birthday party really looks like.”
Lucas almost laughed out loud. What an idiot.
He was trying to show off.
“Hanley, you know, next time it rains, you shouldn’t use an umbrella.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Because when God sprinkles wisdom down on the world, you’re just blocking it.”
Hanley’s brow furrowed. Liana covered her mouth, trying to stifle a giggle.

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
