Kate seethed, grinding her teeth in anger. “You can treat me however you want, but I’m begging you, can’t you be a little kinder to Natalie? She’s a good daughter.”
“If she were a good daughter, she wouldn’t have divorced Darren, causing him to cut off our allowance. If she were a good daughter, she wouldn’t be going to that exam, and I would have 500,000 dollars.”
“Five hundred thousand dollars, just so you can sell Natalie again. How many times are you going to sell her? Haven’t you had enough? She doesn’t owe you anything!”
“You wretched hag, how dare you talk back to me.”
Martin slapped Kate hard across the face, leaving her dizzy and disoriented.
Kate clutched her cheek and tried to leave, but Martin wouldn’t let her go. “You think you can run, you hag? I let you off easy last time. This time, I’m going to beat you to death.”
Kate curled up on the ground as Martin began to kick and punch her mercilessly.

At the competition venue, the atmosphere was electric. The top one hundred contestants from the preliminaries had all taken their seats. Only the first-place winner, Natalie, was conspicuously absent.
Since her victory in the preliminaries, she hadn't made a single public appearance. The media had gathered early, hoping to interview her and gauge her confidence, but they had come up empty again. It was one thing not to get an interview before the exam, but now, with the start time fast approaching, she was still nowhere to be seen. Was she planning to forfeit?
“Why isn’t Natalie here yet? Don’t tell me she got scared?”
Darren’s eyes turned cold. “Don’t you see the child sitting here?”
Marie’s face soured, but she retorted, “Was I wrong? Natalie cheated her way in and even had Patrick slander me. She wanted to prove herself, didn’t she? The competition is about to start, so why is she acting like a coward now?”
Darren’s expression grew darker. He didn’t believe Natalie would back down.
Hanley fidgeted nervously. He didn’t want his mommy to win, because if she did, his auntie would definitely be unhappy. He didn’t want his auntie to be unhappy, but he hadn’t expected his mommy not to show up at all. Seeing her empty seat, he felt a pang of disappointment, though he wasn’t sure why.
Maybe it was just because the competition wouldn’t be as exciting now. That had to be it.

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
