What had just happened left Hanley stunned. He nodded numbly.
Marie wrapped her arms around him. "Look at you, you poor thing. From now on, no matter what happens, you need to stay calm. Don't panic. And when we're outside, remember to hold my hand, and nothing bad will happen, okay?"
Marie took Hanley's hand; his palm was sweaty.
Marie's composure, completely devoid of guilt, made Hanley wonder. Could it be that she really hadn't pushed him? Had he run into the road because she had startled him?
Marie suddenly spoke in a gentle, comforting tone. "Hanley, don't be scared. Mommy's here. Nothing will happen."
Mommy?
She wasn't his mommy.
But this time, Hanley didn't dare say anything.

"About that old woman from the Cross family, are you sure you don't want me to handle it? You're really going to leave it to the police? She won't be locked up for long that way."
Terence pressed Natalie, unwilling to let the old woman off so easily.
Natalie replied calmly, "For someone like Victoria, even one day in jail, let alone a few, will be a living hell."
Terence sighed. "You're great in every way, except you're too soft-hearted."
Natalie raised an eyebrow. "Calling someone soft-hearted these days isn't exactly a compliment, you know."
"You might have a point there. After all, I wasn't praising you."
Natalie was speechless. Why did he have to be so blunt?
Just then, Natalie's phone buzzed. It was a message from Patrick Mercer.
"What I mean is, treatment isn't a one or two-day affair. The time you spend giving us our treatments and preparing medicine isn't that long. You can just come back every day to handle it. It won't interfere with your work at the institute."
Natalie froze. Was Terence actually encouraging her to go to the institute?
"I don't know if that's right. I'm taking your money, I should be doing the job properly."
"Are you afraid I'll ask for my money back? Do I look like I'm worried about that kind of pocket change?"
Pocket change? Natalie was floored. He had given her a salary in the millions, and he was calling it pocket change? He was unbelievably generous.
"Mr. Lockwood, your memory must be failing you. The salary you gave me is far more than pocket change!"
Terence feigned confusion. "How much was it, then? It couldn't have been a million, could it?"
Natalie nodded. Terence feigned shock. "Well, that is a bit of a shame. A million dollars, and you've only worked for such a short time. It's really not a great deal for me. What a pity. Oh, well!" He sighed dramatically.

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
