Marie forced a gentle smile. "Darren, what's on your mind?"
Darren snapped back to reality. "My mother is still in custody. Let's get her out first."
"You're right, Darren. If your mother isn't here, who will host our wedding?" Marie's smile didn't reach her eyes. She knew this was just another delay tactic, but this time, she wouldn't give him a chance to back out.
Marie continued in a passive-aggressive tone, "Mom has been locked up for several days. It's all Natalie's fault. She's so unreasonable. She knew Mom is used to a life of comfort and isn't in good health, but she had her put away anyway. It's been days. But the good news is, she's getting out today. I've already sent someone to pick her up!"
Just then, Victoria stormed in, cursing.
"That jinx Natalie! She got me locked up for so many days! I stink all over, I feel like I'm rotting. That witch is unbelievable!"
Marie rushed over, pinching her nose. "Mom, you do have quite an odor. Helena, draw a bath for her right away, and get some clean clothes."
Seeing Marie pinch her nose made Victoria even more furious.
It was all Natalie's fault that she was being treated with disgust.
Victoria hurriedly took a bath and changed her clothes.
"That woman is too much! I only slapped her once, and she had me detained for days. Marie, you have no idea, the food in there is inedible, and the bed is hard and smelly. It was just awful!"
"Mom, Natalie has Terence backing her now. You slapped her, so of course she was going to teach you a lesson. From now on, you need to stay far away from her. After all, we can't compete with Terence right now."
Marie's words only fueled Victoria's anger.
She started wailing, full of self-pity. "Darren, are you still defending that woman? She's the reason your mother was detained for days! What's wrong with me saying a few things about her?"
Darren's eyes were dark. "If you hadn't constantly picked on her and criticized her in the past, maybe we wouldn't be in this situation now."
Natalie had become utterly disappointed in him and this family. His mother couldn't escape the blame for that.
"What? So now you're blaming me?"
Seeing Darren still defending Natalie, Marie felt so angry she could have burst.
But for the sake of her wedding, she had to endure it.

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
