Hanley had almost forgotten about that, but Marie bringing it up made his heart ache all over again.
“Even though she knew her own son wanted to get into the gifted program, your mommy gave the opportunity to other children. Do you know why your daddy doesn't want to get back together with her?
“It’s not because your daddy doesn't want to. It’s your mommy who wants to be with Terence. The Lockwood Group is much wealthier than the Cross Group now. Your mommy has already found someone richer; why would she ever come back down?”
Hanley had been to the Lockwood estate. He had seen the difference between their family and his. It was true, the Lockwood Group was far wealthier than theirs.
Seeing Hanley's expression, Marie knew her words had hit their mark. She took out the medicine box Hanley had given her.
“You can have this back.”
Hanley was confused. “Isn’t this the medicine Mommy gave you for Grandma? Why are you giving it back to me? I thought Grandma was getting better after taking it.”
Marie scoffed. “Who told you your grandma got better because of your mommy’s medicine? Your grandma’s medication was prescribed by a doctor from abroad. I had this box tested. While it’s not poisonous, it’s just a common sedative. Your mommy was just trying to appease you.”
“What? That’s impossible!”
“Hanley, you don’t even trust me now? Your grandma is a patient. We can’t just give her any random medication. I had it tested. It won’t harm her, but it won’t do her any good either.”
“That’s your grandma, the one who’s loved you more than anyone since you were born. You’re her only grandson. Doesn’t it hurt you to see her like this?
“She’s doing a little better, but she’s still confined to a wheelchair. She can’t even control her own arms and legs. When you hear her cries of pain, doesn’t your heart break for her?”
Hanley nodded, picturing his grandmother’s suffering and hearing her agonized moans in his mind.
“It’s all because your mother refused to save her. When we got her to the hospital, the doctors said that if she had been brought in sooner, or if someone had performed first aid on the spot, her condition wouldn’t be this severe. She might have to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair. How could your mommy be so cruel? How could she just leave her there to die?”

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
