Overwhelmed with anger, Hanley threw the medicine box to the ground.
“If it’s useless, then it’s just trash.”
Marie looked at Hanley approvingly. “You did the right thing, Hanley. Some things just need to be thrown away. Your mommy doesn’t see you as her child anymore, so you don’t need to see her as your mommy.
“But don’t worry, I’ll be your new mommy, and I’ll take good care of you. In the future, you won’t just be the heir to the Cross family, but the Ward family as well. When our families merge, we’ll make sure you’re never second best to those Lockwood kids.”
“I understand, Marie. From now on, I’ll think of you as my real mother.”
Marie wrapped her arms around him. “That’s right. You have to remember, you’re our precious boy. You’re going to inherit a great legacy. And when you grow up, you have to be better than Lucas. You have to prove you’re stronger than him, understand?”
Hanley nodded, silently vowing to himself that he would grow up to be stronger than Lucas. He would make his mommy regret choosing Lucas over him.
Marie watched the resentment festering in Hanley and felt a wave of satisfaction. Children were so easy to manipulate.
The doctor never said that bringing his grandmother in earlier would have made a difference. Her relapse had been untreatable.
Her only goal was to make Hanley despise Natalie.
Tomorrow was her wedding to Darren. After tomorrow, they could finally be together openly. Their spectacular wedding would surely make Natalie burn with jealousy.

At the retirement community.
The usually quiet facility was in an uproar.
Keith Wycliffe exploded, “Are you out of your mind, Fairchild? What are you suggesting we send them? Gifts? Our blessings?”
Despite the outburst, Old Mr. Fairchild didn’t get angry this time. Instead, he smiled slyly. “When someone sends you an invitation, you should return the favor. But it doesn't have to be a blessing. What you send is entirely up to you.”
Suddenly, everyone understood his meaning.
“I’d love to send them a funeral wreath.”
“I’ll send a giant tortoise. For the groom.”
“I’ll send a gift certificate for a top divorce lawyer.”
“Ooh, that’s a good one! I need to think of what I’m going to send.”

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
