“My husband was transporting supplies when he was attacked by Ravencian forces. He was killed in a plane explosion. How could there be a body?”
“Let me tell you something. The person who was blown to bits in that plane, the person reported to have died without a trace, was a Lockwood family servant named Thomas, wasn’t it?”
When Simon mentioned the name Thomas, Grace froze.
Thomas had been just an ordinary servant, and he had passed away thirty years ago. Very few people even remembered him.
How did this man know his name?
Simon saw the shock on Grace’s face and grew even more smug. “Fifty years ago, I doubt anyone remembers who delivered the news of grandfather’s death to you. But I know. It’s because my grandfather gave Thomas a sum of money and told him to tell you that he had been killed in the explosion. In reality, that very night, he and my grandmother boarded a ship to Marentis.”
Grace felt like she couldn’t breathe. When the news of Edgar’s death arrived, the entire Lockwood household was plunged into grief. She had clutched her infant son and cried until she fainted multiple times. And all the while, he was on a ship to Marentis with another woman.
“Where is Edgar Lockwood? Where is he? If you claim he’s your grandfather, why didn’t you bring him here?”
“Grandfather doesn’t want to see you. But he couldn’t stand by and watch his grandson ruin the Lockwood Group over a woman, causing the stock to tank. So, he sent me to set things right.”
Grace found it utterly laughable. So now he couldn’t stand to see the Lockwood Group in crisis? Back in the war-torn years, when she was weathering every storm alone, where was he then? Why didn’t he show up to help her?
“He’s alive, is he? Fine. As long as he’s not dead, tell him to come here himself. Let him have a good look at the Lockwood family corporation and see if it’s still the same little trading company he abandoned. If he can’t stand it, let him come out and say so. Did you really think you could make fools of us all just by showing up and spouting a few lines, you little upstart of unknown origin? You think far too highly of yourself.”
Grace’s voice was like ice. “The Lockwood family has no such heirloom, and my husband never had any illegitimate children. He died decades ago. Security, get this liar out of my sight!”
At that moment, any desire Grace had to see Edgar Lockwood was extinguished.
So he had taken the jade thumb ring, the family heirloom, because he didn't recognize her son?
Grace had lived through an era of chaos and weathered immense storms. Even though she knew that was the Lockwood family heirloom, and even though she knew that his mention of Thomas meant there was more to the story of what happened back then, she made her choice.
At this moment, even if it was the truth, she would make it a lie.

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
