The owner of the shop, a friendly woman, looked surprised to see Natalie.
“Natalie, you’re here! I was starting to think you weren’t coming back anymore.”
This small shop was located near the old Cross family residence, and Natalie used to come here often by herself.
Darren and his son had always looked down on the simple little place, worried it would tarnish their image.
“I was in the area for some business and wanted to stop by and see you. And get a bite, of course.”
“Coming right up! It’s so good to see you. The usual one?”
“Two, please.”
The owner paused for a second, her eyes finally landing on the man standing behind Natalie.
She hadn’t realized they were together, since Natalie had always come alone before.
A genuine smile spread across her face.
“Alright then,” she said warmly.
Nicholas sat down, feeling a bit out of place. As a man born into wealth, he’d never eaten at a small, hole-in-the-wall place like this.
“You used to come here alone a lot?” he asked, having noticed the owner’s subtle shift in expression when Natalie ordered for two.
“Yes, I did.”
“Did Darren and Hanley never come with you?”
“People like you, born with silver spoons in your mouths, probably don’t eat at places like this.”
“I’ve never been to one before,” Nicholas admitted. “But if you like it, I’d be happy to come with you anytime. Whenever you want. Because that’s what being with someone is about, isn’t it? Being there for them, doing the things they love to do.”
Natalie smiled slightly. “You must have had a lot of girlfriends. You’re quite the smooth talker.”
Nicholas looked her straight in the eye. “I’ve had my share of girlfriends in the past, that’s true. But from now on, I’m going to be serious. In the future, I’ll only have one wife!”
She had wanted to say that for a long time.
But she’d never had the chance.
Because Darren and his son had never been willing to come here with her.
Saying it now felt like a small release, a moment of closure.
Nicholas watched as a light breeze brushed a strand of hair from her forehead. She had a quiet, gentle presence that made you feel completely at ease.
It made a man think about settling down and building a home with her.
When they finished, Nicholas tried to pay, but Natalie insisted.
The owner leaned in and whispered excitedly to Natalie, “Is this your boyfriend? He’s very handsome.
Your old mother-in-law was a real piece of work. It’s a good thing you got divorced. Now you can find someone better.”

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
