Mrs. Lockwood’s eyes lit up. If this little bastard wanted a piece of the empire her mother-in-law built, then he could bring out his grandfather’s assets to be divided, too.
She refused to believe that the legitimate bloodline was worth less than some clown born to a woman on the side.
“That’s right. Simon, since you’re so eager to divide the Lockwood family’s assets, the overseas properties should be put on the table as well. You don’t seriously think that a child born out of wedlock can monopolize the fortune, do you?”
Simon’s expression soured even more. He looked to his grandfather, Edgar Lockwood.
“I’m not dead yet, and you’re already fighting over my assets!” Edgar said, his face cold.
Mrs. Lockwood felt a brief moment of awkwardness. *It would be better if you were,* she thought. *At least then my mother-in-law wouldn’t have to suffer.*
Edgar studied Natalie. The other day, she had been so self-assured.
Confident that she could wake the man in a vegetative state and secure the Ward Group shares.
He had been somewhat impressed, but now he saw she was just a woman with no real skill, all talk.
“A person needs to know their limits. You should only take on what you can handle. The Lockwood family motto is to be pragmatic. Has no one taught you that?”
Simon chimed in, eager to stir up trouble. “Exactly. She was so confident back then, making a bold claim that she could wake up the Cross family’s young master and even get shares of the Ward Group. I thought she was actually that good, but it turns out she just killed him. It's ridiculous. Hilarious, even.”
Simon laughed wildly. Just then, Natalie, holding a silver needle, pricked him.
Her hand was so fast that Simon didn’t have time to react.
His mouth moved, but no sound came out.
“The Lockwood ancestors hoped their descendants would be people who could shoulder great responsibilities. Not someone who, during a time of war, knowing the family was a target, would abandon his wife and child to save his own skin and run off with another woman to live a comfortable life.”
“How dare you speak to me like that,” Edgar said coldly.
“Please don’t be angry, sir,” Mrs. Lockwood said sincerely. “I’m not trying to be sarcastic. I’m just saying, since you’re back, maybe you should get rid of that part of the family motto. We might not be able to live up to it, but now that we’re old enough to be in charge, we can at least remove it! Isn’t that kind of reverse thinking popular these days?”
Edgar’s face was grim. Simon wanted to speak up for his grandfather.
But no sound came out. He could only flail around, which annoyed Edgar even more. The old man turned and left.
Simon grabbed Natalie’s arm, gesturing wildly.
*What did you do to me? Why can’t I talk? Fix this right now, or I’ll…*

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
