Natalie’s voice was cold, and Hanley was fuming.
His father and grandmother were right. His mother was completely clueless.
Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Natalie and Angela signed the ten-billion-dollar contract. Angela then walked over to Natalie, holding the document.
“Take a good look, Natalie. This is a ten-billion-dollar contract between the Everhart Group and the Cross Group. With this, the Cross Group’s rise to the top is just a matter of time. As the former Mrs. Cross, aren’t you happy? Shouldn’t you be thanking me?”
Angela flagged down a waiter and had him bring over a glass of champagne.
“To the former Mrs. Cross. Why don’t you toast me, your new benefactor?”
Angela looked at Natalie smugly. Natalie sneered back, “If you’re the 'benefactor' up there, that just makes him your lapdog.”
The reporters in the room burst into laughter at Natalie’s remark.
Darren strode over angrily and grabbed Natalie’s hand, hissing in a low, vicious voice, “There are a lot of people here. Are you sure you want to embarrass me like this?”
Natalie smoothly shook off his hand. “A fly is buzzing in my face. You expect me not to swat it?”
Darren looked like he was about to boil over with rage.
How could Natalie humiliate him in front of so many people? And now that she knew the Cross Group was about to make a comeback, did she not feel a shred of regret?
No, she had to be faking it. Deep down, she must be eaten up with regret. He had to give her a way out.
Darren hadn’t expected Angela to grab his arm and instinctively tried to pull away, but she held on tight, shooting him a warning glance.
He instantly understood. Angela wanted him to play along.
Darren let Angela continue to hold his arm. The reporters, sensing a juicy story, started snapping photos furiously.
Natalie looked at Angela clinging to Darren’s arm and said, “Angela, I’m genuinely impressed. Not many girls with your pedigree are so eager to go dumpster diving for my trash.”
Angela had grabbed Darren’s arm to provoke Natalie, but instead of getting a reaction, she found herself on the receiving end of Natalie’s mockery.
“What did you say? This is your ex-husband.”
