“Exactly. As you said, he’s my ex-husband, which means he’s something I threw away. I’m surprised you’re so interested in him.”
Angela was furious. She dug her nails into Darren’s arm and hissed, “You’re useless. She has absolutely no lingering feelings for you. What good are you?”
Angela wanted to team up with Darren to provoke Natalie and Terence, but she was shocked that Natalie was completely unfazed.
Darren was seething at Angela’s words.
Angela continued, “Go on, Natalie, keep pretending. Even if you act like you don’t care, I know you’re furious now. Did you see that?
Even after the Cross Group went bankrupt and Darren hit rock bottom, the Everhart family can still give him ten billion dollars to make a comeback. What do you think is going through Terence’s mind right now? On one hand, there’s you, the woman who cost him everything. On the other, there’s me, the one who can bring him unimaginable wealth. Who do you think he’ll choose?”
Lucas immediately stepped forward. “I know the answer to that! My dad will always choose Natalie, without a doubt. If he cared about some immense fortune, he wouldn’t have given up his position as president of the Lockwood Group in the first place. That just proves that Natalie is more important to him than any amount of wealth and glory.”
Angela’s face contorted with rage.
“Lucas, Liana, do you two really want to keep living in that rundown house in the suburbs? You’ve been accustomed to a life of luxury since you were born, with servants catering to your every need. Are you really willing to give all that up?”
“We don’t want to give up a life of luxury.”
Lucas’s words finally brought a sense of relief to the furious Angela.
Natalie felt a swell of emotion at Lucas’s words.
Terence had been right: she wasn't just a choice or a fallback. To them, she was the only thing that mattered.
At that moment, Darren felt a surge of irritation and instinctively kicked his son, saying angrily, “Did you see that? That kid knows how to talk, how to handle people. And look at you. His kid is his biggest asset, while you're just a liability. Why can't you be more like him for once?”
Hanley felt like his day couldn’t get any worse. He had been beaten up, and now his own father was criticizing him.
Darren then grabbed Natalie’s hand forcefully. “I’m giving you one last chance. Come up on stage with me right now. We’ll complete this signing ceremony together, and you’ll still be the lady of the Cross Group.”
