Angela nodded and lowered her head to eat her noodles. As she did, a tear dropped into her beef noodle soup.

She felt terrible. She was the one who had ruined Darren, yet he didn’t blame her. She wished he would at least yell at her.

Darren noticed something was wrong. *Was she crying?*

He put down his utensils and asked with concern, “What’s wrong? Is it too spicy?”

Darren thought the spice had made her cry. Angela quickly grabbed a napkin to wipe her tears.

“It is a little spicy,” she said.

“You can’t handle spicy food? I’m sorry, I didn’t know.”

“It’s okay. I’ll get used to it after a few more bites.”

“Should I order you a bowl of plain broth noodles instead?”

“No, no, it’s fine. It’s actually delicious. Even though it’s a bit spicy, the flavor is really good.”
