“And when you were carrying on with Marie, did you ever consider if Hanley would be hurt? Oh, wait, Hanley wouldn’t be hurt. You three are a happy little family. I’m the only evil one.”
Suddenly, a flicker of panic and guilt crossed Darren’s eyes.
“Natalie, I wasn't the one who told Hanley to say those things.”
“You didn’t tell him to, but he did it anyway. That’s because you and the others have been poisoning his mind, filling it with nothing but Marie, leaving no room for his own mother. He only wants to protect you and Marie, and he doesn’t care if he hurts me in the process.”
“I’ll make Hanley apologize to you for this. You’re his mother. Don’t be angry with him anymore, and don’t say in public that he’s not your son.”
“He doesn't need me as a mother. He has Marie. She can be his mother!”
Darren’s emotions flared, and he grabbed Natalie’s shoulders. “Marie is his aunt! She will only ever be his aunt!”
His outburst made Natalie laugh.
“Darren, are you serious? The whole world knows what happened between you two in that car. Your mother even explained to everyone that you were a couple before I broke you up. Now that I’m out of the picture, you two lovebirds can finally be together, and your older brother can just be the tragic footnote.”
Natalie realized she wasn’t the only victim; her late brother-in-law was the one who had truly suffered, cheated on even in death. The thought soured her mood even further.
She threw herself at me, and I was trying to push her away, which is why the car was shaking. But I swear to you, nothing actually happened. Then the police showed up.”
“So nothing happened because the police arrived? It wasn’t that you didn’t want to, you just got interrupted.”
“No, by then, I had already pushed her off me. But when the police came, we were disheveled, and it was impossible to explain. I couldn’t just say she was the one who came on to me. I didn’t want her to be humiliated.”
Natalie looked at Darren. “So you’re saying this is all my misunderstanding? Do you take me for a fool? Do you know why I followed you that night? It’s because, under the dinner table, her foot was touching your leg. If there was nothing between you, why would she dare to do something like that?”

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
