The first few days inside the Lustrous Moon went well. The entire pack was happy to see her and Whit got to know many of the pack’s children, not only his age but those between his and Milly’s, as well as some of the older children.
He was off hanging out with them all the time, not something that bothered her greatly, because she knew that was not only why he was here but that he would be completely safe here inside his father’s pack. None would dare to harm their Alpha’s child.
He’d also finally started calling Parker, dad, which made Parker smile all the time. He liked hearing it, and Whit had told him not to call him Whitney anymore, just Whit. He’d been running off to play with his new–found friends, the children that would be the future Alpha Unit, and had hollered “Just call me Whit, dad.” as he’d run off to play.
Parker had been standing next to her at the time and his hand had grabbed onto hers, unconsciously, she’d thought, and he’d squeezed it tightly. Then, a moment later she’d found herself hugged by him, after Whit was out of sight. “I can call him Whit.” He’d stated excitedly, and she’d picked up his emotions about it as well.
Bella had half laughed, and he’d let her go, only to realise what he’d actually done. “Gosh I’m sorry, I was just.” He’d run his hand through his hair and kind of looked embarrassed to her.
“Happy.” She’d finished his sentence. “It’s fine, Parker, You always wanted a child, and now finally he’s calling you dad, and really settling in here. I understand.”
“It does seem that way, he’d nodded. “Belladonna…”
“May I ask you something.” She asked, at his once again, using her full name, unlike everyone around him who just called her Bella. Just like back then, “Why do you always call me Belladonna, never Bella or Bell?”
He blinked at her a little surprised by her question and then stated “It’s pretty, like the flower you were named after. I like it. Bella and Bell are quite common wolfen names, but Belladonna is unique and beautiful. This is also how I think of you. I think your name suits you.”
She stared at him now. She had not known that was why he always stated her full name, because he liked it, but that explained a lot. “It’s not why I was named that, just so you know.”
“What do you mean? I’m certain your mother or grandmother…”
Bella sighed and held up her hand to stop him. “Don’t look at it that way, Parker… The Luna named me after that flower, yes. But not because it was beautiful, but because it is toxic and poisonous to our kind.”
“What?” he was frowning at her now.
“It was meant to be a full reminder every day of my life that I was not wanted, was just something to be rid
ga
of.” She told him.
Parker stood staring at her now a little wide–eyed and then his hand was in hers. “Come with me for a minute,” he murmured. “Have you ever actually seen a Belladonna Lilly flower?” he asked.
“No,” she admitted. “I heard it’s a hideously ugly plant in the wolfen realm that kills many, and has a deadly neurotoxin that kills wolves.”
“In large doses, yes, it is used to immobilise prisoners mostly and is illegal to use for the most part,” he stated as they walked into his office and he sat her at his desk. Put her right in his chair.
“Parker, I can’t sit here,” she stated.
“You can, if I want you too,” he told her, and put a hand on her shoulder to push her back down into the chair when she went to stand up. “Just stay there for a minute, please.”
She sat and watched him pull up a chair next to her, the one she knew Kane used, saw him log into the intranet and then search out a Belladonna Lilly. She looked at it as he tapped the screen.
“Pretty flower mummy.” Milly stated from her lap as she looked at the flower Parker was touching on the
screen.
