Chapter 157
(Ari)
‘Come home, sweetheart.
55 youshim
I opened my eyes and those words still echoed in my ears. Those were from two unfamiliar voices that I heard for the first time in my dream. One was a woman, the other was a man. The woman could be my mom, but the man’s voice didn’t sound like it belonged to my dad. Both sounded like DJs though, like people I’d listen to on repeat.
When they called, my eyes watered and my chest constricted.
But where was home? And who were they?
Why did it hurt hearing their voices? I didn’t even know them. Yet, hearing the sadness in their voices was melting something within me. I wasn’t even sure if I was the one they were calling, but I was already this affected.
For all I knew, the dream I had about them was just because of what I saw yesterday. Maybe I was just affected by the dragons and wolves’ howls of longing for their princess Maria Regina. My wolf was antsy and yet, when I sat on the bed and felt something soft against my hand, my beast stopped at once. I lifted the navy-blue silk handkerchief that was wrapped
around my wrist.
It had Aidan’s scent.
I remembered the panic I felt seconds before I passed out. I was terrified. I didn’t want to be vulnerable, not in front of an alpha. But then I saw his wolf reaching out to mine, humming that song that seemed strangely familiar. When he caught me and wrapped his arms around me, I heard his voice in my head.
‘You are safe in my arms, Ari.
That was when my wolf finally gave up the fight. Even if my mind was unwilling, she stopped trying to stay awake to protect us and took a rest from the bone-deep exhaustion that I’d felt since being caged in House Lemadon.
Throughout the night, when I stirred and opened my eyes a couple of times, I saw Aidan holding my hand. He was asleep and still held me like he was worried I would escape. On the other side of the room, there was one more person who was awake and I caught staring at me.
Sebastian.
His wolf was on guard. And I didn’t want to admit it but the pain in my heart seemed to have lessened. I couldn’t remember sleeping this long before. Even if my human form was asleep, my wolf was on edge all the time. With Sebastian and Aidan, surprisingly, my wolf was able to take a break which was probably the reason why my body felt lighter in years.
Just for that, I would forgive the prince for invading my personal space.
I stared at the handkerchief. I should be burning it by now. Anything from alphas must be set on fire. But my wolf was against it. So, I decided to spare it for today. Tomorrow, the fabric had to go. Or not. My fingers traced the embroidery on the silk. Anyone could tell that the handkerchief belonged to a royalty.
My eyes glistened. On second thought, I could sell it for a good price and make one girl out there happy.
“You slept awfully well,” Sebastian observed as he leaned on his bed frame, his eyes never leaving mine.
“I did. On the contrary, you look…”
“Like shit?”

“No. Shit would be too kind. You look like somebody just tried to exorcise the evil out of you and failed.”

His hair was disheveled as if he had run his fingers through them the whole night. He had dark circles under his eyes. He had stubbles too. And yet, even with that appearance, I was sure Shitty could still make girls swoon especially with that bare chest and with those abs.
But hearing those words would certainly make him happy so why would I say them? Making a man happy was not on my to- do list for today.
As usual, Sebastian’s eyes narrowed. “Did you know that you could actually make this world a better place if you don’t speak?”
“How else would you know that you’re an asshole if I don’t talk? Not many people have that much courage.” Besides, it had been a while since we last had this heart-to-heart conversation. The last time was before our first morning run which made me remember Lance and his friends. “That day during the morning run, why did you do that to Lance’s friends? That was a violation.”
“Of course not. That was an accident.”
“Are you saying that your fist accidentally smashed their jaws?”
“Exactly.”
It started with a smile. And then without intending to, a laugh escaped my throat. Damn. I would give up Aidan’s black card to have fist accidents like that. That must have been fun. I was still laughing when Sebastian rose from his bed and stopped in front of me, looking mesmerized. His lips parted… and my eyes unintentionally drifted to them.
Just for a bit.
This morning, Sebastian’s eyes didn’t look judgy as he whispered. “You should laugh more, Ari. You look… fucking beautiful.”
My laughter died down.
His eyes slightly widened upon realizing what he had just said. He cleared his throat. “My turn to ask. Who is Danny? A girl ›r a boy?”
My heart raced. Did they find out who I was already? “Why are you asking? How did you know her?”
Look at me properly, Ari. Do I look like I’m getting enough sleep?”
Well, he looked like a mess. A hot mess. “Ah… no?”
That’s because you are never quiet even in your sleep. You’ve been calling her name. So, it’s a girl huh? Your lover?”
Dani is…” I clenched my hands. It was always hard to talk about another omega to an alpha. “A very special person in my ife.”
Sebastian must have detected the protectiveness in my voice. His eyes dimmed. “If you already have someone special, then vhere are your mates’ place in your life, Ari?”
An easy question at last. “I’ll figure it out soon. I only need to worry about Aidan’s place anyway.”
What?”
We’re breaking the bond, aren’t we?”
He didn’t answer. That was followed by two weeks of awkwardness between us. Sebastian had become quiet each time we

were in the same room although whenever he would see me with Sophie, he would sit on our table without our consent as if he was like some mother hen who was guarding Sophie from me. He wouldn’t leave unless I was finished with my food.
Even with Nero who sometimes had meals with me, Sebastian was still there. He would always show up out of nowhere, disrupting our peaceful meal since both Sophie and Nero were too scared to talk with him around.
Meanwhile, Aidan kept providing me food and leaving traces of his scent every morning, calming my wolf. Although all that calmness would often disappear during class, in front of Satan, my latest endearment for Laurent.
“Again.” he ordered as he blocked my attack for the hundredth time and swept his leg out, making me fall on the rug. I had to bite my lower lip to stop myself from wincing.
After the spar, nobody in class wanted to pair with me anymore which left me under Satan’s care. Since then, it has been absolute hell. He studied my moves that first day and now, he knew how to counter my every attack. He had already anticipated my every jab which was a big blow to my ego.
I’d won against dad during our training many times which made him proud. But I’d lost practice. That’s why I hadn’t won against Satan yet.
And I happened to be his favorite student. His hits landed harder than anyone else in the class. I was beaten up for five consecutive days every week under the guise of training.
“Tell me, Gray. Can ancient people do this?” he asked as he made me fall once again on the rug.
Agony lanced through my body. Now I get why people said that demons had the nicest faces. Satan was standing in front of me. Was bloodshed really necessary if all he needed was to prove that he wasn’t suffering from arthritis yet?
“Answer me,” he demanded in a voice as soft as an angel but with a personality as nasty as the ruler of hell as he blocked my punch and twisted my arm.
I didn’t scream. I bit my lower lip until it bled. Apart from that, I refused to show anyone, especially him, my bruises. Through glamour, I could conceal them. I’d never let him see how much damage he had brought to me.
In his dark pants and equally dark turtle-neck shirt, he looked like he was representing hell and promoting it to people. He tied his shoulder-length platinum blonde hair. Fine. He looked younger. Like he was only in his late twenties even
if according to Nero, Satan turned a hundred and one last month. In fact, it was like Laurent had his own ring light. He just stood out effortlessly. And he looked so damn good with the man bun, but he was never going to hear me say that.
“What do you want me to say?” I grinned despite the blood leaking down my mouth. I ignored the ache in my bones and gave him a weak pat on the shoulder with my free hand. “Congratulations, professor. Your joints are still working just fine.”
Satan looked like he wanted to tear me apart, but he seemed distracted for a moment as he glanced at the blood on my mouth. He took a deep breath and said, “Quit and all this will stop, Gray.”
